Ganondorf was gone and with him so was the threat to Hyrule's well-being. The Kingdom of Hyrule was finally beginning to enjoy peace once more.
Princess Zelda had spent a long time leading the re-construction of Castle Town, it was wasn't an easy process, but she soon found that many of its former citizens were happy and eager to return to their old hometown and help rebuild. So, along with their help and that of the Seven Sages, Castle Town had been rebuilt, almost back to its former glory, in only a few short years.
Zelda enjoyed the comfort and peaceful atmosphere that had returned to her kingdom. But she still worried about future threats, so in an effort to prepare, the princess had started a new campaign aimed at the next generation of Hylians. A royal class was opened to kids of all ages, teaching a variety of subjects, from general scholarly studies, to that of fighting and even magic.
It turned out to be a successful program, and Zelda was happy to be enlightening so many young minds. She had always loved children, and she was well-versed in the ways of magic, so it only made sense for her to come in and teach some classes herself, and the children seemed to love her so much, always being overjoyed when she'd make her appearance in their royal classroom, clad in such regal dresses.
One such day, Zelda had nearly finished a lesson with her young students on the subject of magic, and was about to leave the class to finish up her more royal duties. But Zelda had made it a habit to end her lessons on something unique, advanced spells from the royal spellbooks, and today she had something special in mind to show everyone before she left.
"Alright, children, watch me now." The blonde princess told her students, who stared at her wide-eyed at what trick she'd pull of today. "This is a 'little' spell I like to use around the castle to make moving things a bit easier!"
She had brought out a pot and placed it on a desk when she first arrived. None of the kids knew what their princess had brought it to class for, until now. Zelda cast a quiet spell and pointed her index finger at the pot, magic sparkles flew from the tip of her finger into the pot, making it shine dimly. The kids were besides themselves with anticipation by this point, all of them wondering what this new spell was going to do to the pot. They got their answer in just a moment, when the pot suddenly started to shrink!
"Wow..." The children 'ooed' and 'aahed' together. Zelda smiled, pleased that her little magic trick had amused the youngsters. The kids ran over to the pot and looked at it. It was only a fraction of its former size, small enough that even a little kid could pick it up in one hand. One of them indeed picked it up but, well-mannered as they were, they took turns passing the pot around, though some still grabbed at it.
"Can you shrink people?" One of the kids asked when the pot was in her hand. This off-hand comment, born out of innocent curiosity, got the other boys' and girls' minds wandering. They'd already thought seeing a pot shrink was cool, but they young minds raced as they imagined other things they'd like to see dwindle away, and all started to talk about potential shrinking subjects.
"Oh! Can you shrink yourself!?" One especially creative boy asked, rather loudly. This louder suggestion got the attention of the group, and soon they were all cheering and asking the princess to shrink herself for them.
"W-Well..." Zelda suddenly sounded not so confident. It was true that she'd practiced the shrinking spell before, and the corresponding growth spell along with it. However, she had only ever tested them on inanimate objects, like the pot, she'd never tried it on a person before, much less herself!
"C'mon! Pleeease!" The group begged her. Some of them had started laughing by now, probably imagining the image of their beloved princess shrunk down to the size of a doll.
"Well, alright. I'll try." Zelda told the kids, and they immediately cheered happily and waited eagerly for Zelda to shrink herself.
They're so innocent, they probably believe I can do anything I want to with magic. I hope I don't let them down! Zelda thought. The spells to change size were indeed advanced, but with her skill level and experience in using them on things other than herself, Zelda thought she'd just be able to pull off such a trick for the kids. She'd just target the magic to herself, shrink herself, let the kids enjoy the show, and then grow herself back to normal in no time, she thought.
"Here it goes!" Zelda tried to sound enthusiastic about giving the kids the show they wanted, but she still had some doubts in her mind.
Zelda walked in front of the classroom and cast the spell once more, she used her magic in the same way as she had on the pot, but this time focused on diminishing herself. All eyes were on the beautiful princess as she slowly started to dwindle down in size, dress, crown and all. There wasn't a single jaw in the room that had managed to stay up as Zelda's size went down. But the children, keeping their patience about them, stayed still and watched in awe as their beloved teacher/princess got smaller and smaller right in front of their eyes.
How surreal... Zelda had to admit being watched was making her nervous, and getting tinier by the second made her feel even more so. But she knew she was still in control of the room, she was after all not only the teacher of these young minds, but also their ruler, she didn't demand respect but she knew she'd gotten it from all the time she'd spent with the children. So she tried not to worry about making herself doll-sized while in a room filled with toy-loving children.
Zelda's shrinking stopped, leaving the princess of Hyrule standing at only a mere 5 inches tall. To the kids in the room, she now looked like a doll version of herself. But to Zelda herself, the kids now looked like giants! Big-eyed, round, giants! Zelda was amazed at the reversal of their respective heights, she wondered if this was how big she looked to the young children.
"... And that's how it's done!" Zelda said confidently, hands on hips as she looked up at the children that now towered over her mini form. But then she gasped and covered her mouth when she heard her new, smaller voice. "Eep!" She squeaked out, face reddening. She now sounded like she'd ingested a large amount of helium!
"Ha ha ha! Look at Princess Zelda!" One of the more rambunctious kid's laughed, many joined him in laughing at Zelda's voice and small size. They didn't mean to poke fun at the princess, the whole situation was just so bizarre that they'd settled for laughing at it over staring awkwardly. Still though, to the reduced princess, it was enough to make her regret her decision to shrink herself.
"Alright, children!" Zelda started, still sounding like a chipmunk. She stopped herself and tried to deepen her voice when speaking again, "That's enough fun for today!"
Unfortunately for Zelda, her attempt at sounding more serious only made her sound more hilarious to the kids. They all burst out laughing at her now. Zelda's face turned even brighter red and she stomped her foot down in an uncharacteristic show of anger. She wanted to scold her students for their behavior, but by now it was too late. They'd all almost gone from seeing her as their teacher, to now seeing her as little more than a princess doll!
Zelda knew the situation was rapidly spiraling out of her control, and she knew that she'd have little to no hope of getting the kids back under her at her current size, so Zelda tried to cast the growth spell on herself, when...
