The blue wall color had been replaced with pastel pink and the black curtains had been changed out with white lace, allowing in much more light. Erica now had a canopy bed with princess themed linen, a dresser, and a vanity. The open closet revealed rows upon rows of very feminine dresses and a full length mirror on the door.
"Here I thought magic worked fast." Stunned, you muttered.
"Mad science is a form of magic." Startling you, dad said. "It is merely geared for boys." He then turned to Erica, frown forming on his face. "Whether this new situation is temporary or permanent depends upon your willingness and ability to learn enough magic to cast the proper spell."
"What will this teach me, father?" Sourly, Erica demanded.
Dad's smile returned. "It is my hope that this will teach you many things, Erica." Calmly, he said. "Patience and cautiousness are among them."
Erica teared up before stepping into her room and slamming the door. Dad merely shook his head as you turned to him, worried. "How long must she stay like that? I mean, I admit I had always wanted a sister but not like this."
"As I stated, it all depends upon her." Shrugging, dad replied. "The magic in your book sensed her urgency to have it and determined that she wanted magic."
"Thus the change in gender as only girls can work magic." Softly, you said. "I get that part but I did not read anywhere that a transformation becomes more permanent with time."
"That is because you have not reached the chapter covering the dangers of having a boy twin." Surprising you, dad remarked. "As your twin, he too has magic within him."
You sighed. "He has to decide which power he wants more."
Dad nodded. "Precisely. Also, there is a phenomenon known as the twin condition. A girl twin to a mad scientist will change into a boy and a mad scientist to form a balance."
You gasped, understanding where dad was going with this. "Only, if that girl twin was a witch..."
"Then one or the other will change based on power or desire." Serious, dad said. "Tex made a critical error when he grabbed the magic book in his haste to retrieve the book of chaotic science. He gave the false impression that he desired to wield magic."
"I guess I should start teaching her then." Wearily, you said.
