Chapter #6

Arrival at Camp

    by: Unknown
Soon the bus arrives and Iris walks out carrying you. Kaylee is there waiting for you with Edgar on her shoulder. Iris hands you to Kaylee and then starts to walk away. She however, glares before she does so. "I've got my eye on you Wade. Warden Destiny told me to come once a week to see how you're doing." As Iris walks off, you secretly give her the finger as Edgar looks at you in surprise. "Dude!" he yells. "That was so uncalled for." Kaylee just snarls and looks down.

You however aren't intimidated. "I take it you're in charge here horn head." "As a matter of fact," says the qilin woman. "I am. The name's Kaylee and let me assure you, I don't like this any better than you do. I hate humans." "And I hate monsters," you say. "Let's get this over with." As Kaylee walks towards the camp, Edgar looks on at you. "Don't tell me you're some monster lover?" you ask. Edgar shakes his head. "No wonder you got in prison. That attitude won't make you a lot of friends." "Blah! Blah! Blah! Why are you hear? You rob a bank?" "Actually," says Edgar. "I chose this job. I was raised in this area. My mom's a monster."

You're actually appalled at that. A human raised by a monster? That's sick. "Anyhow," says Edgar. "My name's Edgar. My mom named me after Edgar All..." "Who cares." Edgar just shakes his head. "I wonder if the warden sent you here just to get rid of you. The werebear that ate me last week had better manners than you." You just stick out your tongue. "Whatever. What's the deal with this camp."

Edgar smiles and begins to explains. "Camp Darkly is a summer camp for young monster girls. We accept from any species. There are ten counselors besides Kaylee and me. Most of them want to marry me. For some reason big fat monster chicks find me attractive." You almost gag in disgust before Edgar explains. "First off is my best friend Miranda the werewolf. She's really cool and always has my back. Of course she does eat me on a regular basis and she stole my bahamut girlfriend, Gia, but I don't hold that against her. Then there's Janet, a big red gargoyle and pretty much the most maternal mons...." "Gargoyle!" you yell. "Gargs are the worst." Edgar just ignores you. "If you saw a can like hers you'd change your tune. Of course Nat is a close second. She's a jack o'lantern girl who makes it feel like a party everyday. I wonder if she's got sugar for blood or something." Edgar laughs at her own joke as Edgar clears his throat.

"There's also someone you might like. Her name's Heloise. She's a hellhound who was given the choice of Under Gloom or here. Of course, she keeps me in a purse like a chihuahua when I work with her. It's so humiliating." "Another reason to hate monsters." You say. Edgar gets slightly annoyed before continuing. "There's also a kappa called Skyla. Nice girl, but don't ever take her out for lunch, you'll go bankrupt. Then you can meet Dolly the weresheep." "Weresheep?" you ask. "You made that up." "No, they're a legitimate species. Dolly was raised by humans and her folks still live with her." You let out a scoff. "If I found something like that in my backyard, it'd be lamp chops for a year baby."

Kaylee looks down and growls. "You two better get along down there," she warns. "Or I'll eat you both right here." Edgar shakes his head again. "Okay. Then there's Venus, a manticore who works as the camp cook. Of course, I'd never tell it to her face, but she's the worst cook I've ever met. She doesn't seem to know what she's doing most of the time. We gave her a job after the health inspector closed down her cafe." "Can't be any worse than prison food." You say. Edgar coughs slightly. "Next up is Nurse Martha, she's a tarasque." "What's a tarasque?" "It's a big tortoise with a lion's head and multiple arms. I'd watch your mouth around her, she's got quite a nasty temper. Janet beat her in a beauty pageant years ago and she's held a grudge ever since. Then there's Bettina, a brocken specter ghost in charge of campfire stories. I don't like her much because she loves to scare me."

You roll your eyes and wish that you'd just reach the camp sooner because Edgar's descriptions of your new coworkers was making you crazy. "And last is that jerk Odile," says Edgar with venom in his voice. "That big ogopogo thinks my kind are out to steal her job. Her, you can be rude to as much as you want."

You look and see the camp up ahead as you sigh. Only three months as a counselor here and you never have to see a monster again.

You have the following choices:

1. You Reach the Camp

2. The Inspector Shows Up
