Soon, Kaylee reaches the camp carrying both you and Edgar. Once she steps foot on the camp soil, there's a loud explosion and confetti fills the air. Kaylee even swallows some of it before she coughs. Nat the pumpkin headed girl runs out with a smile on her jack o'lantern face and is carrying a cake. "Welcome to Camp Darkly!" the pumpkin girl yells in an excited tone. You roll your eyes as Edgar lets out a laugh. The rest of the counselors come forward and Heloise the hellhound girl looks directly at you.
"He's not as cute as Edgar." "Oh really?" you ask with a smug look. "Well you're not as ugly as Destiny dog face." Heloise gives an annoyed look before the brocken specter Bettina floats forward. "Ooh," she says as she waves her fingers. "So we have a tough guy here." The rainbow ghost lets out a sinister laugh and makes a frightening face that you just blow your tongue at. "He just doesn't know us," says Nat with that annoying smile still on her face. "Let's be friends Wade. Cake?"
You gag in disgust. "Are you kidding me?" you ask. "It's probably made of toxic waste." Nat actually looks saddened and her eyes well up with tears as the manticore Venus shakes her head. "He'd probably like it better if I made it." As Nat is crying, Skyla, the kappa woman decides to help herself to the cake as Martha the tarasque girl lets out a roar. "How dare you make Nat cry like that?" she asks. Martha growls and tries to come after you but Janet the gargoyle woman and Miranda the werewolf grab her by all six of her arms. "Let me at him!" yells Martha. "I"ll show him." "Leave him alone Martha," says Janet. "That temper of yours is out of control." "You want to start something beauty queen?" asks Martha angrily.
The ogopogo girl Odile lets out a sigh and then slams herself in the face. "Why me?" she asks. "Am I the only one here with any sanity." Dolly the weresheep giantess taps Odile on the back as you quickly grow impatient. "Come on!" you yell. "Let's get this started before I go brain dead from being with these monsters any longer than I have to." Edgar at this point becomes so fed up he punches you in the face. "Dude!" he yells. "What's your problem! You haven't said anything nice since you arrived. "Oh grow up!" "Silence!" shouts Kaylee as she makes thunder appear in the skies. All the giantess counselors stop and look at Kaylee.
"Wade will be staying at Camp Darkly serving community service until Summer ends. Since we don't have any human sized cabins, for each week of the camp session he will stay at a different counselor's cabin. His roommate at the end of the week will report to Iris, the cyclops Destiny sent to act as Wade's parole officer. If Destiny receives three particularly bad reports it will be back to Under Gloom for Wade." As Kaylee is speaking, you move your lips to mock her and she makes your mouth disappear. You groan before the qilin giantess continues. "And I want you to at least try to get along with him, even though he's a jerk. Which means no eating him Miranda." The werewolf giantess shakes you head. "Eat one immortal human one thousand times and you're branded for life." "Next time," says Edgar to Miranda as Kaylee hands him to the werewolf giantess. "Cut back on the garlic. Your insides smell bad enough."
As Miranda puts Edgar on her shoulder, Kaylee gives you your mouth back as you breath in deeply. However, Odile has a question. "Wait," says the ogopogo. "There are twelve weeks of Summer and only eleven counselors here that are monsters. What about the remaining week." Kaylee points up to the sky and you hear wings flapping. You look up and see another monster giantess. This one looked like a cross between a hippopotamus and a dragon with leather wings. She had gills on her neck and long blackish blue hair and was wearing a red jacket, black shirt and blue jeans. The strange giantess lands with a thump on the ground and then smiles at Edgar before blowing a kiss. "Uh-oh." says Edgar.
Immediately Heloise, Martha and Dolly growl at the new giantess. "Hello Elisa." Says Dolly in an angry tone. "Sorry I'm late Kaylee," says Elisa. "I overslept." "What the hell kind of monster is that?" you ask. "I'm a bahamut," says Elisa. "Basically a hippo combined with a fish, but with a dragon added in. Dungeons and Dragons, what are you gonna do?" "And all ugly." Elisa snorts angrily and blows black smoke out of her nostrils. "Listen," she says. "I may be used to humans and I work with one at my winter job, but I'm just starting work here today and I don't expect to make any enemies." You shake your head. "Whatever hippo face."
Elisa walks up to the other counselors with only Odile, Venus, Miranda and Bettina being welcoming towards her as Edgar hides in Miranda's hood. "Just what we need," sighs Odile. "Another suitor for the one guy counselor. So who gets stuck with Wade the first day."
Kaylee snaps her fingers and summons a jar out of thin air with papers inside. "I've taken the liberty of putting numbers in a jar for the weeks at camp. There are 12 monster counselors, this will decide the order in which we put up with the twerp." You couldn't care less and just wish that Kaylee would get it over with. Kaylee reaches in first and draws the number 6, meaning you'd stay with her on the 6th week of camp. You could've sworn it was a 1 a second ago though. She probably cheated with her reality bending powers.
"Alright." Nat and Odile walk forward next and Odile lets out a sigh. "I bet I get stuck first," says the ogopogo. "I never had much luck gambling." Odile and Nat draw their cards. Nat gets a 4 while Odile gets a 9." "Aw," groans Nat. "I wanted a 1. I got off on the wrong foot with him and..." "Next!" yells Kaylee impatiently as you grab your ears. Miranda and Martha draw next. Martha draws an 8 while Miranda draws a 10. Next up is Heloise and Skyla. Skyla draws a 2 and Heloise draws a 7. "Ooh," says Heloise. "My lucky number." "Crud!" yells Skyla. "I get stuck with that grouch on the second week."
Bettina flies forward and draws a number as does Venus. Venus gets a 5 and Bettina draws an 11. "Hey, hey, hey," says Bettina. "It's my lucky day." Venus shrugs her shoulders because she doesn't care. Dolly is next to draw and Edgar asks her a question. "What did you get Dolly." "A 3. That leaves only a 12 and a 1. The first and last weeks of Summer." Janet and Elisa look at each other and glare slightly. "You go ahead Janet," says Elisa. "After all, you are my friend's kid sister." "Uh uh," says Janet as the gargoyle giantess gives a fanged smirk. "Age before beauty." "Ha, ha." Says Elisa sarcastically. "Just draw!" yells Kaylee.
The bahamut and gargoyle reach in and draw numbers. You don't know which is worse because whoever draws a 1 will be your roommate for the first week of camp. Elisa already didn't seem to like you and she was a cross between a dragon and a hippo. That bahamut would probably get real mad if you tick her off. Then there was Janet the gargoyle. She's the last species you want to be stuck with during community service, especially after your experiences with Destiny.
