It had taken many weeks of hard, exhausting work, but Forge's dimensional gate was complete. Created in the hopes of exploring different dimensions, such as the one which Nightcrawler traveled through during his teleports, it was the mechanically inclined mutant's new pride and joy, and he could not wait to test it. With a quick call to Professor Xavier, who in turn brought his students along in case something went wrong, the stage was set for the technological genius to premier his newest masterpiece. Making his way to the controls, Forge began the start up procedure, checked and rechecked the settings, and made sure he failsafes were in place.
"Alright everyone, get ready, I'm going to open a test gate in five seconds. Five...four...three...two...one!"
With a flick of a switch, the air around the gate crackled with electricity, and the room hummed with energy. With a loud roar, followed by what sounded like static, a slowly swirling vortex appeared in thin air.

With a hand on his stomach and a content smile, Naruto Uzumaki walked down the street leading to his apartment after a big dinner at his favorite ramen joint. Celebrating another job well done, the young pupil of the Toad Sage was ready for a good night's sleep following his well deserved meal. It was already dark out, and with no one else outside, he walked the path alone.
Just a block away from his home, he dug into his pocket for his keys. With an overenthusiastic yank, he pulled them free, only to have his beloved wallet slip free along with them, and land on the street, spilling its contents. Groaning in annoyance, Naruto knelt down to pick every single bill and coin left over from his night of eating. It was then then, as he was trying pick up his change, that a massive hole appeared beneath his feet, giving him no time, or ground on which to jump. No one witnessed the ground below him open up and swallow him, before closing without a trace.

The gifted youngsters of Xavier's school waited eagerly for something to happen, as the tear in space time swirled before them. Their muscles were tensed in anticipation, each ready to use their powers if the need should arise. Only, it didn't. The only thing that came through the portal that they saw was bits of dust and dirt.
"Like, maybe there's nothing on the other side to see," said Kitty Pryde (AKA Shadowcat) in her valley girl manner.
"No, there has to be something on the other side," Forge argued, "all the readouts are right, and the portal is open on both ends."
"Maybe you just opened it in the middle of nowhere, and there's nothing to see," Rogue offered, moving her white bangs out of her eyes.
"Ah man! I was sure that something would come through. Now I've got to recalculate everything and try again. That's going to take days!"
"It's alright Forge. I'm sure you'll figure it out," Jean reassured.
"Jean is right Forge," the professor said, "this is only the first test, and it ended with nothing bad happening. I'm sure, given time, you will figure it out. For now though, I think it best to power it down, and take a break. We can start again tomorrow."
With a nod, the technical genius started the shut down sequence, never noticing a small object coming through the portal as it closed.

Free falling through the swirling nothingness almost caused Naruto to vomit up his dinner. He was only in the portal for less than a minute, but the nauseating feeling in his stomach made it seem like ten, until he was finally ejected from it and flung across a giant space, landing on something soft and silky.
