Chapter #4

Mom on the Run

    by: Unknown
"If my son - I mean, me - if my body thinks I'm insane, then I better get out of here before he calls the hospital!"

Thus resolved, you go quietly to your door. You open it very slowly so it won't creak. You look out into the hallway. No one. You can't hear anything except your sister Jenny singing along with Arcade Fire in her bedroom. "Good," you think. "So my body hasn't talked to my sisters yet... I hope." There's still Cassandra, after all.

You leave your room, closing the door behind you in case your body comes back. You creep along the hallway towards the staircase. You wince at every creak in the floorboards. Halfway through you pass by the bathroom. Even though the lights are off and the door is partially closed, you can still make out your mom's chiseled features, and her short hair, tapering down to the back of her neck, dirty blonde and ruffled, the look of a former high school gym teacher. "That's me," you think. The thought makes your spine shiver. "What have I got myself into?"

You don't know what your plan is until you've gone down the stairs, checked the living room for any signs of life, and then raced for the front door, struggling to open before anyone sneaks up on you. Just as you realize that you need shoes, and maybe a light jacket, you wonder if maybe you can go to a friend's house? They'll be a little easier to convince than your old body, you imagine. So long as you explain the situation very clearly. This feels right. It calms you down long enough to put on some gray slippers and a unisex black jacket. Still undetected, you open the door and walk outside.

"Okay," you think. "I'm in the clear. Now who do I go to?"

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*
1. Your best friend, Jimmy, down the street

2. Your close friend and biggest crush Bridget, a few blocks away

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
