"I take it everything is in place, yes?"
A seductive, yet threatening female voice comes from the hooded figure before the innkeeper. Her dark violet robe covers up most of her body, highlighting her shapely form while also hiding it, and her black cloak seems attached to it solely by the grey fur draped across her shoulders. While her hood guards most of her head from your sight, you can see a small smile on her purple-coated lips, along with a few locks of light blue hair and her pale skin.
Behind her stands six people, each one hidden by a different coloured cloak. You can at least make them all out to be female.
The next one closest to the innkeeper wears a sandy-brown colour, and prodding out from it, at around waist level, is -
- the body of a scorpion. You quietly gulp.
"Yes. I've set up everything like you asked me to." The innkeeper responds, causing the smile on the woman's lovely lips to grow "What do you want me to do now?"
"Oh, simply run this place as you normally would, but be absolutely sure to keep people away from the basement." She waves a hand to the other members of her group, who all proceed to and down a door you guess leads to the basement. Save for the Scorpion Girl, who stands firmly at the her side. "But I guess..." She puts a hand to her chin and is silent for a moment before continuing "... if, perhaps, a decent male who no one would miss were to stay here for the night, could you inform us of him?"
The innkeeper nods in silent obedience, and you see gears turning in his head.
"Good. That will be all. Thank you for all you've done." She concludes and moves herself to the downwards stairs, her right-hand scorpion-woman following behind.
"Master Morgen, wait." The innkeeper's voice stops the two in their tracks. They both turn in your direction to look at him, so you pull your head completely behind the wall as quickly as you. Your sight of them gone, you listen as intensely as you can. "There was a young lad today..."
Your eyes widen.
"Oh?" The voice of the woman, you now know as Morgen, in tinted with curiosity.
"An new adventurer, most likely, considering what he was armed with..." Your fingers scrape into the wall as the innkeeper speaks.
"And what room is this young adventurer staying in?"
The innkeeper gives them a room number. Your room number. 'Oh no...'
"Serket." Morgen must be speaking to the Scorpion Girl now "Go and bring the boy down to us. We'll see if he strikes any of our fancies."
"Sure." Serket's response, and the advancing tapping of her scorpion legs against the floor fills you with so much fear. You gaze around frantically, desperate for anywhere to hide. A Scorpion Girl isn't something even the most experienced monster slayer could take on easily, and you're hardly experienced. Underneath the stairs is the only option you have right now. So you take it: rushing to it and staying as quiet as possible.
The patter of her heading up on the stairs above sends chills down your spine. Eventually they become too quiet to hear, so at least she's away for now. Slowly and quietly, you push back the door and peek out, just in time to see Morgen's back disappear down the to the basement and the innkeeper pass into a back room.
You silently ponder how to go about this.
Going after the innkeeper seems somewhat pointless: he's clearly a small fry compared to the other two.
Leaving was a definite no-go: the inn doors would no doubt be locked, so you'd need to swipe them off the innkeeper or find them, and wasting time doing that when a Scorpion Girl is after you is very unwise. Not to mention the streets at night are crawling with Imps and other Monster Girls: doing all that work just to get molested and raped on the streets is unappealing.
Going down to the basement after Morgen, possibly finding out what she's up to, sounds more productive. But you can't forget that you don't know what she's capable of: she could, and probably would, have many powerful tricks up her sleeves. Not to mention that the rest of the group is also down there, and heaven knows what they're capable of themselves.
Ambushing Serket, if successful, would drop the basement group's numbers down to six, and you won't have to worry about her ambushing you in the basement. But if not, if you fail or she sees you first, it's pretty much over: she'd be on you instantly, and there's not a snowball's chance in hell you'd beat her in a straight fight.
You don't have much time left. You decide to...
