Cautiously, you push out from your cover and quietly slip across the room. Reaching the top of the basement stairs, you sneak a glance at both the door to the back room and the arch you had just crossed over from. With no current sign of the innkeeper or Serket returning, you start your descent. Hopefully there'd be somewhere to hide at the bottom.
Sinking deeper with each gently step, you find this stairway to be far different than the one that leads upwards. The space struck you first: while the other's stairwell was wide and changed direction along the way, the walls of this one hugged it almost suffocatingly-tight and forced it to stay on a straight path. Next, you found, was the material: cleanly carved wood had met with your feet multiple times on your first descent of the night, but here all you felt beneath your soles was cold stone.
Eventually you see light, signalling the end of this cold descent and the beginning of the basement.
The final step passes under your feet, and you quickly search out a place to hide. All you find is a large wooden box casting a deep shadow from the light, so you take it and dart behind it as safely as you can.
You take a moment to recover, then lightly poke out to see Morgen and three others at a table, just under a lamp embedded in the wall. The one closest to her wears a white coat, while the other two wear a green one and a blue one.
Morgen and the female in the white cloak discuss something you can't hear from this position, but from the look of things, Morgen hardly seems happy with her. You watch them argue from the darkness for a good while, till Morgen finally seems to have had enough and storms off, taking Blue Cloak with her. White Cloak seems to simply shrug before twirling around, wandering off in the opposite direction with Green Cloak in tow.
You figure it'd be best to keep an eye on one pair so they don't ambush you later, and maybe they might even lead you to something important.
So: left, after Morgen and Blue Cloak, or right, after White Cloak and Green Cloak?
