Getting Ready for Guard Duty

by: BIG BAD WOLF is Merry Author IconMail Icon
"Citizen Lucas Willow,

"Your Week of Guard Duty starts the day after you receive this letter. Report to your Section Commander, and bring your weapons and armor. Make sure that they are in working order. Also, make sure you bring your cleaning/repair kit.

"The Mayor."

Lucas gave a sigh as he finished reading. He'd been hoping that the letter had come from some woman that admired him.

He went to his room and got out his battle shovel-ax and crossbow. The shovel-ax was in two parts- the shovel-ax section, which had two ax blades, sharpened pointed shovel head, and a two foot long handle, and was made to split skulls. It pierced the target through to the flights.

"Not too bad," he said as retrieved the bolt.

He then set up a block of wood, and picked up the shovel-ax section. He swung it in an overhead manner, and got the blade stuck half-way in the block.

"Need to work on that a bit," he muttered, as he freed the blade from the wood.

"You need to work on that a great deal," said a voice of authority.

Lucas turned his head and saw his Section Commander, a
