When Urahara felt the sudden blast of hollow reiatsu come from the Shattered Shaft, he almost lost his composure. It was on a level of intensity he had only felt once or twice over the entirety of his career. The force of it was like a solid, ten ton wall that bore down upon him and Tessai at speeds in excess of mach four, and it was all he could do just to keep from falling to his knees as the figure rose from the hole.
It was a hollow, there was no mistaking that. But it was a hollow on a level that the scientist never could have anticipated. Long, orange hair, horns like a steer, a thick muscled hide painted white and red. In its hand was a black, single-edged sword with a manji hilt, and gleaming yellow eyes peered out at them from beneath the enamel mask.
It was tall and muscular and awesomely powerful, its spiritual pressure alone nearly enough to bring the roof of this massive subterranean clearing down on their heads.
Kisuke was actually trembling as he stared down this beast, and it was all he could do to resist the urge to go immediately bankai and exterminate this hollow with his full strength. But he did resist, partly because he felt he owed it, on some level, to the boy whose life he had irreversibly complicated almost straight from day one, and partly also because he wasn't even sure if he would actually be able to take this hollowfied Ichigo by himself.
Even with the kind of kido that Tessai could bring to bear, Urahara's old friend and assistant would be little use against an enemy of this level. Even Urahara himself would not feel comfortable tackling something like this without at least two upper-tier captain class fighters to back him up.
But he didn't really have a choice in this matter. Desperate times called for desperate measures...
