One of the headlines read "Humans making a deal with the monster world". Even before reading it you got your hopes high, maybe your life would become more safe?

There are supposed to be "laws" that protected humans from monsters but you never quite understood how they work. After all, monsters regularly stomped, smothered, ate, mashed, boiled and generally eviscerated humans without being prosecuted by the law. A good example would be Lupa, who often offers gourmet dishes made from from human beings to the gargoyle policewoman nextdoors, or Nefermina who boasted a very large number of "accidentally" splattered humans.

Nevertheless, as you read through the article you realized that...
