well... put simply... they don't

it is five years after the war should have ended but hiccup never found toothless and so an alliance was never met, the vikings have made many attempts at the nest and have been getting much more effective at it due to the new weapons and navigation equipment and were frequently coming back alive but the vikings being a greater threat had not scared the dragons away as they had a permanent nest and they still needed the extra food so they simply sent more aggressive spices of dragons to raid the now more aggressive vikings such as the thunder drums, the driver dragons and the devilish dervishes and so the vikings simply had the mechanics build stronger defenses and weapons and so the war only escalated as the mechanics developed better food supplies which made the rewards of raiding all the higher.

one day you are in pyrovillias master forge (as pyrovillia had developed into quite the fortress) putting together a ventilation mechanism for the mines when a brass bell rings above your head indicating that someone is at the front gate and you look through one of the quick visors which were basically telescopes working with mirrors so that people in pyrovillia can check whats happening in other rooms and this one was pointed at the front gate where you saw stoic the vast, whilst you weren't to fond of your biological father you knew that this meant good business, you go to the gate to meet stoic and he explains that he wants your help in
