Ash was around 17-18 years old. The various friends he made over his journey kept coming and going. Brock and Misty weren't the only gym leaders to come along with him on his quest. Sabrina, Erika, and a few others decided to take a break and come along with him at a few points. Even Aya (Koga's sister) and Janine (Koga's daughter) joined him.
The latter two had put Ash through a training regiment that buffed him up and helped him with a few mental exercises that somehow made him smarter.
Currently, Dawn and May were traveling with him. At the moment, the three were at a Hotel. Ash was currently taking a shower.
The window opened and a group of Ditto slithered in. They looked around and packed Ash's clothes into is backpack. Then they took the form of the clothes.
It wasn't long before Ash came out of the shower and dried himself off. He then put on what he thought were his clothes.
"Strange...Something feels off..." Ash muttered.
"Ditto!" Several voices called out.
Ash looked around, but saw nothing. Then his gloves forced him to pat his chest. Looking down, she was shocked to see that every bit of clothes he was wearing had Ditto's face on them.
