The three kids stood wide-eyed as before them where the mare had been now stood a woman, maybe about forty. Her hair was long and chestnut brown just like the mane of the horse had been, and her eyes were the same strange gray. However, she was wearing a gingham yellow dress and no longer had a bridle on.
"Wow. Finally," she sighed with an expression of great relief. "It feels so good to be back on two legs again. I thought I would have to stay a horse for life."
Tom finally was able to find a small voice and asked, "Ah, who are you?"
The woman smiled as she walked over and picked up the box of candies. She then took one in her hand and held it out to Tom.
"The best way to find out is to wish you knew. Isn't that how you got here?"
Tom thought for a minute, then answered, "Yes. Yes it was," as he took the candy from the woman. "Thanks. I wish ..."
"Tom, wait," Ashley blurted as she grabbed his arm. "Are you sure making a wish is a good idea?"
"Yeah, dude. Ashley's got a point. Why won't she just tell us?" Adam added as he walked cautiously back to the stall.
"I can tell you everything, but it's so much more fun to use the candies, just be careful how you wish or you could get stuck like I did for two decades."
With that, the woman opened the stall and walked out letting Adam inside then closing the gate.
"It would almost be fun to let you all enjoy the stall together," she said nodding towards the pony and swishing the remaining candy in her mouth, clearly implying that she could wish all three children into ponies. She paused just long enough for a shiver to run through each of them before she chuckled, "However, I wish I was home where I should be today."
"Poof !"
"That was weird," said Adam.
"And scary," Ashley added.
"I wish we knew what that was all about," Tom spoke without thinking.
