After placing the box beside Tom and Ashley, the mare looked around at everyone then used her nose to flip the lid open. She turned her head to one side as she looked at the candies. Tom and Ashley glanced over curious as they continued to brush the straw off each other.
"Hey! Those aren't horse treats," Adam called out as the mare started to sniff them.
However, that had no effect, and Tom and Ashley just watched as the mare extended her large tongue and very deftly took one candy pulling it into her mouth. She raised her head and cocked it from side to side seeming to smile with her eyes staring up and off as if in deep thought as well as enjoying the taste.
"Did you see that?" Tom asked to no one in particular his face full of amazement as he watched the mare.
"Eww, yeah," Ashley replied scrunching her face with repulsion. "I don't know if I want to ever have another candy now."
Turning back to Ashley, Tom asks, "What else would you want to wish for?"
Just then the mare started to neigh and whinny turning to first look at the young couple then to focus a harsh glare at Adam. His expression immediately became scared.
"She's ... she's m-m-making a wish," he sputtered and started to backpedal. As the mare continued to focus on him, Adam turned and ran for the barn door.
"Do you think a horse can make a wish with the candies?" Ashley whispered in Tom's ear with concern as she moved against him taking hold of his arm.
