It was a nice day outside as Syrus was casually strolling around the forest. He, Jaden and the rest were ready to start their third year at Duel Academy while Hasselberry and Blair were about to start their second one. There was also something about a promotion for him going into Obelisk Blue after his performances and high grades he scored last year. He knew he would feel a bit lonely with him moving to a new dorm, since while he was still in Ra Yellow he had more opportunities to visit Jaden and the gang at Slifer Red.
But currently, he was looking at a blank card he found near the gates of the academy. His issues with moving out were obscured by a curiosity about the card.
"Is this the real deal? I never thought I'd found this here."
"And what exactly did ya find Truesdale?"
Syrus yelped at the sudden question as he turned around to see Hasselberry with a grin on his face.
"Don't scare me like that!"
"Heh. Sorry 'bout that. But what's with that blank card in your hand? Did you find a misprint at the shop?"
"No, I found it near the gates."
"Huh. Odd place for this to be."
"Well actually....", began Syrus with his explanation. "Remember that magic show we had not that long ago?"
"You mean the one with the magician brought by Crowler? Yeah, I do. It was pretty neat. One of the few good things he did as a principal..."
"You know that moment when he called a few students to hold these blank cards on the stage and said they can make wishes come true? Like make money appear and getting to find your old stuff.... I have been thinking. What if we tell it we want to become Obelisk Blue students? I mean we could finally be at the top with the big guys. And we won't have to hear from Crowler that we are lazy in that situation. It works only three times if I remember. So we could have two more wishes left..."
With the possibility to move with his friends into the Obelisk dorms would be perfect as they wouldn't be fragmented and they would benefit from the comfort of the place as well. But Hasselberry gave a sigh at this.
"C'mon Sy. You know things like that don't happen. The guys who went on stage either were in cahoots with the magician or simply had good luck. First there is Jaden with the spirits and now you with this magic stuff?"
"But... what if it's real?"
"I doubt it... I mean..." He then took the card from Syrus's hand to look at it. "It's just a blank card. I can't see something like this granting wishes. It's like with the magic well thing... But I do wish the two of us could be in Obelisk... as improbable as it is." He then gave the card back, with neither noticing a faint glow from it.
"I guess you're right... It does seem a bit outstretched."
"Of course it is... But I was wondering one thing."
"What is it?"
"I know the guys in the blue dorms get in there due to their grades... But I wonder how did the girls that hang with Alexis got in there."
"You mean Jasmine and Mindy?"
"I'm not surprised Alexis is in there, but those two make me wonder how easy is the entry there. I mean, the don't Duel unless it's either a test or a demonstration and seem more interested in the basics than in actual Dueling."
"Well, I know they have high grades... but when it comes to Dueling, they are a bit unexcited. And I've heard they remade their Decks recently as well, but I haven't seen them Duel anybody."
"Exactly. And not to mention their obsession with boys. They always talk about getting boyfriends instead of Del and such. Even Alexis is tired of that."
"... That's true...They might think this is just a regular academy where we could find romance and such... I admit it makes me curious. I wish I would know exactly what they are thinking." Just then, the card glowed again, but a bit stronger this time. Hasselberry thought he saw a light come out of the card, but merely thought it was just an optical illusion or something. "Anyway, let's head to class. The supplementary classes are about t begin."
"Tell me again why are we going? I know Jaden needs to go since he is still in Slifer, but why do we go?"
"We may need some new strategies. Cards are being made non-stop. Who knows what types of decks we mind find in the future. A bit of preparation doesn't matter much... And I kind of feel bad for Jaden."
"I think I will go for the latter more than anything else.", joked Hasselberry as Syrus put the Card in his pocket as the two went to class.
With two wishes already made, the Card was now ready to make them real. But since both were vague, it decided to accomplish them in a special way...
