Chapter #5A Strange Prescription by: Komfy Kat Harper nodded slowly as she struggled to stay awake but couldn't find the energy necessary for a response. The man smiled politely and got up, leaving his briefcase behind as Harper continued to ponder things in her mind. Was she feeling ill? Was this unusual? It was all so fuzzy, like she was miles away, but she couldn't quite remember how she had gotten there or what she was doing.
The man returned after a minute and handed Harper a coffee, and sat back down across from her. She took a sip of the liquid and closed her eyes as the man smiled at her. Everything seemed to fade away as darkness surrounded her, and her head fell forward in a half-closed position as she clutched at her cup a little.
Harper sat like that as she slowly relaxed. Her body was exhausted, but her mind was racing. Her body felt heavy. She couldn't make out the dreams she was having, and she slowly drifted to sleep.
A snap somewhere in the back of her mind woke Harper as she tried to open her eyes. She blinked and looked around her as she slowly lifted her head from where it had been resting on her crossed arms. She winced as light flooded her eyes and her surroundings slowly came into focus.
She was still in the restaurant, though night seemed to have fallen outside. There weren't as many people in the restaurant as there had been earlier, and she didn't recognize any of them as having been there when she first entered. The man with the briefcase was gone though her coffee was still sitting on the table near her.
"Oh, you're finally awake."
Harper turned to see a boy in one of the restaurant's uniforms looking at her with a small smile on his face.
"The man that was with you said he was a doctor and that you weren't feeling well and to let you rest. He also said to give you this when you woke up," the boy offered her a massive trayful of food, and her stomach let out a loud growl in excitement.
She took the tray from the boy and mumbled a quick thanks before watching him walk away. She took a deep breath as she turned her attention to the tray in front of her. It was loaded with food, more than most people could eat in two sittings by her estimation.
Harper stared at her meal in silent awe for a few minutes, barely able to believe how much food was in front of her. Still, she was hungry, and the man had been kind enough to buy it for her, so the least she could do was try to eat it all.
Harper unwrapped one of the burgers and quickly began consuming her meal, hurriedly gulping down each piece as she chewed it and swallowed it. She was ravenous as she consumed her meal, stopping only to take a drink from her coffee. She could feel her stomach starting to stretch as she started to feel full, but she continued eating. She wanted more. She needed more.
She continued eating as she turned her attention to the dessert, shoveling bite after bite into her mouth without slowing down. She had to hurry. She had so much food; she couldn't let any of it go to waste.
The boy suddenly came back, carrying more food from the kitchen, and handed it to Harper, saying, "The man said that you should eat this too."
Harper's eyes went wide as she looked at the second tray of food. It was even bigger than the first, and she was already starting to feel so full. However, something was stirring in her, driving her to continue eating as she stumbled through some words of thanks.
She set the first tray aside and swiftly turned to the second, attacking it with gusto. She swallowed each piece of food as fast as she could, barely even pausing to chew as each bite exited her mouth again and entered her stomach. The food was amazing, and she couldn't get enough.
She ate until both trays were empty. Harper fell back into her seat, burping softly. Her stomach felt incredibly full, but for some reason, she liked the feeling. She felt like she was being hugged again like she was being cared for.
"Thank you," she said softly as the boy returned to take the trays. She stood up and looked around the now almost empty restaurant, debating her next move. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
