He was inside a school hallway.
Nothing odd about it, just a regular hallway. Ash looked confused as he swore there would have been something odd about his predicament. He looked around for a bit, the hallways were nicely kept, the walls were decorated with school announcements and projects, and the classrooms seemed to be fine with students. He took a sigh of relief as he was glad he was not anywhere dangerous or in some strange place. Still it did mark the question why the bright light, or whatever it was, brought him here. It seemed to be an awful lot of trouble just to send him to school.
Then again he still wasn't sure if this was the school he attended, or the right grade regardless. Nevertheless, Ash didn't have any more time to think as he felt a tap on the back of his shirt. Turning he was greeted with a girl with brown hair, a yellow headband, matching shirt-with a red skirt over it-socks and brown loafers. Ash didn't say anything as the girl spoke, "Uh...are you lost?"
It took a few seconds for Ash to answer as he was a bit mesmerized, "Uhm....kinda of..." He responded as he was still confused at what was going on.
"Well do you need any help?" The girl asked extending a hand, "I'm Phoebe by the way."
Ash shook her hand as he introduced himself, "I'm Ash...I'm....new here.." Telling a little white lie, as he wasn't technically wrong either.
"Nice to meet you, new you say?" Phoebe said interested, "Does that mean your the new kid our class has been hearing about?"
"Uh..sure, absolutely," Ash responded friendly, as it was a way to get some answers, or at least mingle for a bit.
"Excellent, follow me," Phoebe clapped her hands as she lead the way to her homeroom class. "You know I don't blame you, this school is pretty big for new students, but once you get used to it, you can find your way around."
"I'll be sure to do that," Ash responded as he was trying to keep the conversation going. It was still strange he was here, but it was also better to follow Phoebe then wander around the halls and possibly getting into trouble. This way, he was at least protected.
"And here we are!" Phoebe opened the door as she introduced Ash to the rest of her classmates. Immediately Ash took in the fairly small class, up to six students if he counted himself, and the really bizarre decorations around the place. Skeletons, dinosaurs, the periodic table of elements hanged like a flag, and some class pets here and there. What he took notice however was that the classroom, or teacher, was keen on teaching more about science over any other subject. Strange, but doable.
"Hi there," a kid with a red cap and a green shirt, with a red R on it, greeted Ash as he shook hand, "Name's Ralphie, class athlete and future NFL player."
"I'm Ash," Ash responded as the kid seemed to be friendly at least. "Guess I'm the new kid then, and future classmate. Hopefully." He added meekly which only made Ralphie laugh. "Of course you are gonna be, why else would you be here?"
"No reason," Ash gulped as Ralphie slung an arm around his shoulder.
"Come on I'll show you to the rest of the class." Ralphie pushed Ash until they met up with an asian girl, wearing a red coat with a pink undershirt, who was busy with a phone in her hands. "Ehm, Wanda meet Ash."
She looked up as she waved at him, "Hey Ash, Wanda here. Hope you can stomach most of the class lessons. Unlike Arnold."
"Hey," A kid with glasses, orange hair, and a white and yellow striped shirt interjected as he stood up from his chair, "It's not my fault I get...nervous about the trips sometimes."
"What does he mean by that?" Ash asked.
"Oh you'll soon find out eventually," Ralphie said, "Kind of hard to explain when Ms. Frizzle isn't around."
"Well to be fair she isn't the most conventional teacher either," an African American girl wearing a magenta and light violet sweater appeared next to Ralphie as she introduced, "I'm Keesha, nice to meet you."
"Likewise," Ash responded as he leaned forward to shake Keesha's hand, "So this...Ms. Frizzle is....quite radical?"
"Well.....you could say that. Kind of hard to place a specific word after all the field trips we've been with her."
"Huh," Ash whispered as he thought of that. Wonder what she meant by that.
"Anyway," Ralphie broke the silence, "There's still three people left for you to meet." Turning Ash around, to face another African American kid, who seemed he was drawing, "Over there is Tim."
"Hiya!" Tim looked up as he continued to go on his work, quite concentrated on it as well.
"Over there," Ralphie pointed to a girl with blonde pigtails, and a purple sweater, reading a very heavy scientific book. "Is Dorothy Ann, or D.A., for short."
"Hello, sorry for being quiet, but my research is very important right now," She waved without moving away from the book as she continued to read, almost ignoring Ash if it weren't for her comment.
"And finally, Carlos," Ralphie almost groaned as a kid with a blue sweater, sat with his arms crossed.
"Hi, nice to meet you. Don't want to step on anything but, you seem to be a little out of place."
"Uh..." Ash was starting to get a bit nervous, as he was scared if anyone knew he wasn't truly from here. However he had no time to explain as Carlos interrupted him, "Could say that your... foreign?"
Ash was dumb founded by what he said, while the rest of the class groaned.
"You'll have to forgive him, he's a bit of a ..... joker," Phoebe informed Ash.
"That's right, and all I need is my Harley next to me!" Carlos nudged at Dorothy. "In your dreams Carlos."
Phew, that was one Ash dodged. For a second his heart was gonna explode. Still he had to admit that wherever he was, it could have been a lot worse. Taking a seat next to Phoebe, the front door of the room opened as I very odd teacher walked in.
Her hair was orange, yet it was...well.....a frizzle-as it was tight up in a bum with some strands standing here and there. She wore a dark blue dress with some decorations on it, that Ash really couldn't see from his position. She had a lizard across her shoulders as she let sit on her desk as she spoke with a very eccentric voice, "Good Morning Class!"
