It was their first day on spring break, and Nick and his friends had decided to go fishing. Looking around their hotel room, Nick impatiently waited for everyone to get ready. Patrick and Allan were still eating breakfast..."breakfast" meaning some dry Lucky Charms and a six pack, and Carlos had just woken up, and was still wearing just boxers. Telling them to meet him down by the dock at the boat they had rented for the day, Nick headed out to get supplies for fishing.
After picking up a cooler, some ice, and some beer, Nock headed to get bait and hooks. A row of fishing stores lined the street across from he docks, but Nick decided to go into a run-down wooden shack, figuring they would have the cheapest supplies. A wizened old Mexican man looked up when Nick entered the door, and disappeared into the back. As Nick grabbed what he needed, he heard the old man rummaging around. When Nick came up to the counter to pay, the old man reappeared, something in his hand. Smiling, he opened his palm to show Nick a necklace with a carved stone charm that looked like some strange symbol.
When the old man handed Nick the necklace, Nick shook his head. It was cool, but he didn't want to buy it. With his limited English, the old man made it clear that the trinket was free, commenting that it was good luck, and would help him catch fish, if that's what he wished. Confused, but happy to get something free, Nick thanked him, paid, and left to meet his friends at the boat.
