This choice: James will stay with Julia  •  Go Back...
Chapter #5

Julia and Isaac Newton's Laws of Motion?

    by: SmittySmith Author IconMail Icon
James has made a decision. "I think I'll stick around Julia. I'd like to see how a teacher with a little more experience handles the girls at this school."

Miss Gonzales smiles at his decision. "Wonderful James! Now I'm just going to move you here onto the desk where you can safely observe. I'll need to use that podium at times during my lecture." As she says this, she gently lifts James onto her large teacher's desk. James is no longer nervous around Julia, but he has learned not to be too trusting too early. He's shaken from his thoughts as Julia's physics students begin to file into the classroom and the passing bell rings. Students continue to get settled.

Word about James seems to have spread already. While nobody noticed him on his podium in his first period class, several of the girls keep their eyes focused on him from the moment they enter the room. Julia clears her throat and begins to address the class.

She takes roll and distributes her syllabus for the term, introducing James as she goes along. She says that he will be observing, and also assisting in today's lecture. That note catches James ear as he wasn't expecting to have to contribute anything to this class, but he dismissed the thought and continued to focus on Julia. She has moved from behind the desk and podium and is pacing slowly in front of the class of students. James is trying to stay focused on Julia's methods, but keeps finding his attention drifting to the ample posterior that Julia continues to wave in his face. It's right at his eye level as she paces back and forth.

Julia's tone changes as she shifts from her introduction into the lesson. "We are going to begin this course with some very basic principles of Physics, Isaac Newton's Laws of Motion. I'm sure some of you are familiar with these laws, but we're going to take a closer look and examine them in action." The class is slightly restless, but still focused on Julia.

"First, we have the Law of Inertia. This means that any object that's resting will remain resting unless something forces it to move. Similarly, an object that's moving will continue doing so unless something forces it to stop." Julia continues, using language that her class of students can easily comprehend. "Let's take a look at the second part of this law in action, with Mr. Smith as our helpful volunteer."

James hears his name and scrambles to his feet, not knowing what Julia has in store for him. He's unable to escape her though as her hand shoots out cat-quick and grabs him in a fist, much less delicately than she did before.

"So, as we know from Isaac Newton, a moving object will continue to move unless something forces it to stop." With those words, she lifts James high above her desk and releases him. James screams as he crashes onto the unforgiving surface of the desk. The class giggles as James collects himself and tries to purge the pain from his mind. "In this instance, the solid desk acted as the force needed to stop James' fall."

She continues....

You have the following choices:

1. More about the "Law of Inertia"

2. Moving on to Newton's 2nd Law
