Normally, you would never enter the basement, especially when your mom and dad were busy with an experiment, but the man on the telephone was insistent to talk with dad. Your sister was not home and your mom was with dad, testing his latest machine. You could hear what sounded like a heavy wind beyond the reinforced steel door and swallowed hard, you could only imagine what he was working on. With your heart in your throat, you hit the buzzer but no one answered. You buzzed again and knocked.
"Dad, phone!" you called.
Again, no answer came and you became very worried. "Something is wrong!" you whispered, nervously rubbing one arm. "Mom or dad always answer when we buzz."
Shaking, you hit the access code to unlock the door and moved to push it open. Only to your surprise, the door violently flew open and ripped off, nearly taking it with you. Fortunately, you managed to catch yourself on the railing at the top of the stairs, going down into the basement, which was as big as your spacious house. Near the far wall you saw a two massive metal rings, standing up inside a pair of supports, spinning in opposite directions with a bright energy field in the center. You looked around for your mom and dad and found them standing at a complex control panel.
"The energy portal has reversed itself!" yelled mom, over the noise of the machine. "Shut it down before we're pulled in!"
"Something on the other side is feeding the machine, keeping the field up!" dad yelled back. "I can not shut it down, we have to manually hit the brake before it gets too strong!"
"Where is the manual brake!?!" yelled mom.
Dad paused. "On the secondary control panel, in front of the machine!"
Mom slapped him in the back of the head. "You idiot!!"
You saw the two rings speeding up, gaining strength and you tried to yell a warning to mom and dad but your small voice would not reach them over the sound of the machine. Then, the pull from the machine suddenly increased and you were ripped off of the railing. you let out a blood chilling scream as you passed over them and dad caught your hand, just in time, only his hand was slipping.
"DAD!!" you screamed, panicked and crying. "Dad, don't let go!! Please don't let go!!"
"I got you, son!" dad yelled back, desperately trying to hold onto you. "I got you!"
Then, your hand slipped from his grasp and you screamed at the top of your lungs as you were pulled towards the portal. You managed to grab a long handle near another control panel, but it pulled forward and snapped off. Your scream was cut short as you were violently thrown into the portal, just before the manual brake engaged, shutting down the machine.
Unknown to you, on the other side, an identical machine was running but with a large glass cage attached to it to contain whatever it brought in from the other side. A man and woman at the controls both smiled as various debris piled into the chamber, creating a thick cloud of dust. then, the man frowned as an alarm went off on his control panel.
"Honey, the computer is detecting a life sign!" he said, sounding worried.
The woman stood up, her face turning pale. "We picked up a creature from the other side?" she asked, shocked.
Inside the glass age, you landed hard onto the wood and metal that was once pieces of furniture, computers, printers, and so on from your dad's laboratory. You were hurt, cut, bruised, and disoriented. Being thrown through the portal made you feel like you had been sucked up by a tornado and spit out into a field of barbed wire. You moaned miserably and tried to find your way back to mom and dad only you were not home any more.
"Mom! Dad!" you called weakly. "Are you okay!?! Where are you!?!"
Then, your hand pressed against the glass wall of the cage. "What!?!" you thought. "This wasn't here before!"
Outside, the woman saw your hand, then your face and turned completely white with shock as her husband rose with her, carrying the same expression. "Oh my God!" she whispered. "Its..."
