Chapter #3

The gnome that wanted to be a druid.

    by: Ëtalfni Author IconMail Icon
"Fiddlesticks!" cursed a pink haired gnome as a small green potion blew up in her face for the fourth time. Thankfully it wasn't a dangerous explosion, just the sort that made a mess of everything as it did with the gnome's lab.

The gnome girl removed the goggles from her eyes, black ashes outlined where they had been covering her freckled face. For a gnome, she was considered pretty cute but also pretty short standing just below three feet tall. Her outfit consisted of an over sized red robe and a brown belt with little glass bottle attached to it filled with different potions. Her hair was done up in a ponytail so that it wouldn't get in the way of her work, which was not going well.

The gnome's name was Val Flintsocket. But everyone called her "Sparkie" due to her peppy personality and constant mayhem she caused from her experiments. You see, Val had a dream to become a druid. It was an odd sort of goal, especially considering she was a gnome. But she had a strange affinity for nature around her; she studied herbs and medicine, she loved animals, and she even read every history book she could find on the subject of druids.

Because of this, many of her kinsmen made fun of her and secluded her. She spent most of her time hiding away in a small house far in the wilderness of Dun Morogh trying to find some way to tap in the natural energies of druids. So far, her experiments proved to be fruitless.

"Gah!" she yelled to herself, startling her pet snow rabbit 'Snowflake'. "This is absolutely pointless! What am I doing wrong!?"

She slammed a book opened and sat on the ground pouting. "Three hints of Peacebloom...A pinch of Giant's Whiskers...I added all of this! Why doesn't it work!?"

Without thinking, she chucked the book in the direction of Snowflake's cage. Both the book and the cage with the rabbit inside went toppling down to the floor with a thud. Val looked horror struck.

"Ohmygosh! Snowflake, I'm sorry!" she said, taking the rabbit out of the cage and hugging it gently. "I lost my temper there."

She stared outside for a minute. The snow was really howling out there, a storm had come up and she was so engrossed with her work that she didn't even notice it. Setting Snowflake down, Val grabbed her coat and she to the rabbit.

"Don't you go anywhere. I just need some fresh air is all. Being cooped up in here all day is making me go a little crazy."

And with that she set off into the blizzard. The wind sharply cut the air and it was probably below freezing outside, but Val couldn't feel it. Her mind was too muddled by the formula for gaining druidic powers to notice anything. She was so close, she could feel it. But every time she got just a little bit closer the opportunity seemed to just vanish and she'd miss her chance. It was driving her insane. If only she could find someone who was a master of druids, someone who could understand how to acquire their powers.

She was stepped over a small hill, her big eyes noticed something lying in the snow. It was...
