"It's my turn." you said with a sigh. "Only, they can wait until after my tea."
Simon shrugged. "I'll be in my lab." he said.
You nodded. "I'll call you for lunch."
After Simon left, you continued to enjoy your tea, listening for anything that might sound urgent, knowing well that even innocent 'fun' can get out of hand. "Heaven help anyone who tries to get between those two." you thought, smiling.
Once you had finished your tea, you put the dishes to soak then walked up the stairs, making certain to hit every creak on every stair to alert them that you were approaching. "Wouldn't want to ruin their fun." you whispered, giggling.
You giggled a little more, hearing hushed voices in the hall beyond the stairs followed by a dull flash before you reached the top to see Chris and Jan standing in the hall, talking about school. You inwardly grinned as they fell silent, seeing you. "Oh, hey, mom." said Chris in a happy tone. "What's up?"
"Dad will be working in the garage for a while." you said, trying to sound serious. "You know how he hates to be interrupted so please stay out of there until after lunch."
"Okay, mom." said Jan with a smile. "I'll probably be in my hobby room in the basement all day anyway."
"You know where I'll be, mom." said Chris.
You nodded, smiling. "Your private room in the attic, I know." you said. "All of us need a place to call all our own, I have a place for myself as well."
Chris and Jan nodded. "The sewing room." they said in unison.
"Only I weave more than just mittens in there." "Try to get along, okay?" you said. "It's not often I get a day to relax and unwind."
Chris and Jan nodded and you walked back down the stairs. "That should buy me at least ten minutes." you sighed, once out of earshot. "Mom told me raising a witch and a mad scientist would not be easy." you giggled. "It should be interesting to see what happens when she visits later today."
