You sighed, hearing the doorbell ring. "Who could that be?" you wondered, walking to the door. "Mom is not due for another four hours, at least."
Opening the door, you let out another sigh to find your mom, Viki Vulcan, standing on your front step. She was a near image of yourself with a firm figure for her age and walked with the aid of a pink diamond cane. "Hello, El." she said, smiling as she stepped inside. "How are you and Chris doing?"
"I have a husband and a son, mother." you replied, patiently. "They deserve your love as well."
"Oh, you know I love Juan with all my heart, dear." cooed mom. "I merely think he would be much happier as a girl, learning magic with his sister." she winked. "You know accidents happen around the home."
"Don't even think about it, mom." you warned. "My husband will not stand for it and neither will I."
Mom shrugged. "As you wish it, dear." she said with a sigh. "I can not control your life. Fate will step in eventually."
You shook your head, knowing Simon will not stand for her mischief but you could not deny her entrance as she was your mother and the only reason fellow witches had not stormed your house. "Please try not to fight with my husband." you begged her. "Jan and Chris know nothing about the war."
"You haven't told them yet?" asked mom, surprised. "They'll be in for a shock if it find its way to your home."
"We'll deal with that when the time comes, mom." you said, firmly. "This is my family, I make the rules."
Mom grinned. "At least you play a dominate role in the family." she said, showing some pride. "There's some hope for you yet, my dear."
Just then, Jan came down the stairs with a worried look on his face. "Mom, I don't feel so good." he said, wincing.
You placed a hand onto his head, looking into his eyes. It was an old and time tested way for a witch to use her magic to search for ailments or other problems in a person's mind. After a moment, you sighed.
"You're coming down with a cold, young man." you said. "Get into bed and I'll bring you some soup and medicine later."
Having no reason to doubt you, Jan walked back up the stairs to go to bed. Once he was out of earshot, mom asked, "What did you really see?"
You sighed then turned to mom and replied...
