Walking into the store as he always did that evening, Steven was feeling a little sombre, the old man who had 'imbued' him with a 'special ability' had passed away shortly afterwards, despite the efforts of the paramedics to save him. Apparently Steven was the person he chose to pass his power onto before he snuffed it. Wandering into the tea room, he saw a couple of his co-workers (Natalie and Becky) sat there waiting to start work, everyone else had apparently started work early at Liz's request.
"Who pissed in your cheerios?" Natalie asked when she saw Steven's expression.
"You okay Stevie?" Becky then asked in a concerned tone of voice, using the nickname for him that she always did.
Walking past Natalie's seat, Steven chose the one beside Becky and slumped down in it. "I just saw someone die!" he muttered forlornly, before turning to glance at a shocked Becky.
"What?" Natalie responded, jerking her head to the left.
"Who?" Becky murmured.
Steven paused before answering. "An old man I bumped into in the park, we started talking...he asked me a few questions, then...he died!" he explained, getting Natalie's interest as well as Becky's. "I phoned for an ambulance but it was too late" he sighed.
"Aww that's awful!" Becky uttered as she rested her hand on Steven's shoulder.
"What kind of questions did he ask you?" a curious Natalie then inquired, as she put her compact mirror and lipgloss away.
Steven just shook his head. "Oh...nothing important" he replied.
The questions however had been of the greatest importance, the old man needed to know Steven was worthy enough to receive the amazing power he had to bestow. He maybe wasn't the perfect candidate...but the old man had run out of time and had made the 'transfer'. As Steven sat there, he began wondering just what he dared do with his new 'ability'. The power in question was...
