Rose stood outside the silent doors for a few minutes, hoping against hope that they would relent. Inside, she knew there was no chance, but she also used the time to wonder what she was going to do. She could try again tomorrow. Surely the king must have audiences to hear his people. She sighed. If that didn't work...but there was no point going there right now.
"Alright Midnight, let's find a place to sleep." She led the horse away from the castle entrance. No doubt the city was replete with inns, but with her small budget, it would be difficult to get a place to rest somewhere safe. Not to mention she wasn't sure how to find the inns. A low growl reminded her that she hadn't eaten properly for over two days. Rose glanced wistfully at the dim lights that shone from houses lining the road. If only, if only, if only...
After wandering the streets for what felt like an hour, Rose found herself outside an open doorway with conversation, light, and the smell of pork spilling out onto the streets. Above it, a sign hung: "Crown's Head". Her stomach rumbled again, and Rose gulped and glanced at Midnight. "Well," she asked the horse, "what do you think? Should we stay here?"
