Chapter #5Mission Day by: MayDay ![Author Icon](https://images.Writing.Com/imgs/writing.com/writers/costumicons/ps-icon-regular-10.gif) "C'mon, Kevin!" Mark said nervously. "You know I'd never purposefully flush your gym clothes--"
"I'll know that after I beat you to a pulp!" Kevin raged. Mark swallowed as Kevin ran at him. Mark swerved out of the way, and Kevin slammed into the wall. He wasn't fazed. Kevin turned back to Mark, who held his fists up readily.
"I've had enough of you pushing me around, Kev," Mark muttered. Kevin laughed. Mark was tall and thin. He was extremely boney, and had never even beaten Max, another Agile, in a fight. Mark felt unconfident himself. But what was he supposed to do? Kevin took a swing at Mark, who ducked under his fist and launched himself at the bigger boy. Kevin blocked Mark's fist that was heading for his face, and Mark kicked his stomach instead. Kevin gasped, doubling over in pain, coughing. Mark took his chance and pummeled Kevin's weak spots, like his face and head.
"Enough!" Kevin shouted, shoving Mark away. Mark stepped away. Then he turned and ran off, into the hall. He bumped into a teacher.
"Sorry," Mark mumbled, continuing on.
"Mark?" the teacher said. "Oh, Mark. Perfect. Mark, wait. I need to talk to you."
Mark stopped.
"Yes, sir?"
"I saw your performance, and I think you're ready for a test."
"A test?"
"Yes. A test. On the field. There's some trouble in town. I was hoping you would go and see if you could help out. Of course, I'd like you to bring a team."
Mark's jaw dropped.
"No way!" he exclaimed. "Really?"
"Really. I'm going to put two or three more people on your team that I think would suit you best. They'll answer to you during the mission. I'll construct three teams for you to choose from."
"Wow. This is really happening?"
"Yes."
"To me? Why would you choose me? I'm a twerp. A weakling. A coward."
"Didn't seem like it to me, based on your little show there. Yes, it's happening to you."
"Wow. I don't know what to say. Thank you, sir! Thank you so much!"
Mark peeked into the room.
"Is it time for me to choose?" he asked quietly.
"Yes. Come on in, Mark."
Mark stepped into the room and viewed the teams. Each group had three people in it. The first group had Francis, Jerry, and a girl named Theresa, who could turn her imaginations into reality. The second group had Lucille and the twins, Mary and Larry. They had the ability to duplicate themselves. The final group had a boy names Norbert, who could create light, Nina, who could mimic any voice perfectly, and... Mark's eyes widened. Standing there stoically, anger still in his eyes, was Kevin. Mark's heart beat faster in his chest. Who could he choose? Francis was a tattletale--she'd probably already told Lucille about what Mark had thought earlier. He was still mad at Lucille for making him flush Kevin's gym clothes down the toilet. And Kevin...Kevin was the most terrifying. Mark was afraid if he chose Kevin, the boy would attack Mark and take lead. Kevin would never agree to take orders from Mark. Who could Mark chose? ![](https://images.Writing.Com/imgs/writing.com/writers/info/interactive-4.png) indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
