After a lengthy pause, Tulio spoke in a voice of such absolute authority that even Miguel was impressed. "Release her."
Tzekel-Kan looked annoyed but released the thief at once. The priest shoved the thing the thief had been holding back into her arms. Now that Miguel had a better look at it, the object that had been stolen looked to be a golden head, probably belonging to a statue.
"Make sure you return this to the temple," sneered Tzekel-Kan, shoving the female thief roughly out of the way. The thief stumbled for a few steps but managed to remain on her feet. As she walked away, both Tulio and Miguel noticed the way the hips of the thief swayed back and forth. If Tzekel-Kan or the chief noticed this, they chose to ignore it. Tzekel-Kan looked to be too busy glaring at the retreating female thief.
"My lords. I am Chief Tannabok," he introduced himself. “What names may we call you?”
“I am Miguel" said Miguel in a bold voice.
"And I am Tulio" said Tulio.
There were murmurs around the audience surrounding them.
"My lords, how long do you intend to stay in El Dorado?"
Tzekel-Kan turned sharply around and rolled his eyes. Before Miguel and Tulio could respond, the priest spoke. "Enough! You do not ask the gods such questions!" said Tzekel-Kan shoving Tannabok as hard as he could.
Realizing his folly, Tannabok humbly bowed his head. “I apologize, my lords. Might we show you to your temple?"
“Or would you prefer to show us your power?" asked Tzekel-Kan. "As proof of your divinity? We are all eager to witness your wondrous powers."
"Divinity.... right," said Tulio. The Spanish man gave a nervous laugh. "Give us a moment".
Tulio and Miguel walked a few feet away. The two gods were having a quiet conversation that Tzekel-Kan and Tannabok couldn't hear. As the conversation continued, the nearby volcano started to rumble ominously. This naturally grew the attention of the entire population of the city, save for the two gods having a discussion of all things. At one point, the one named Miguel was softly hitting Tulio with his open palm while the other had his eyes tightly closed. Tannabok and Tzekel-Kan exchanged bewildered glances.
"Stop!" yelled Tulio in a commanding voice that echoed across the city.
The volcano had been about ready to erupt when it suddenly stopped. Everyone in the crowd gasped at this occurrence and immediately prostrated themselves.
Tulio and Miguel had finally noticed what was happening and opened their arms to bask in the reverence.
"Don't make us start it up again" said Miguel when a guard tried standing. "Because we will."
