Chapter #7

False Gods

    by: Drez Author IconMail Icon
Chel had reached the temple long before the two new gods arrived at the spacious room at the top. The curvy young woman hid in the shadows. For some reason, Chel had a feeling that the newcomers weren't, in fact, gods. Unless Tzekel-Kan had actually summoned the two gods, the man did have a knack for magic, but Chel didn't know that the priest's magic had improved that much.

Chel heard Tannabok and Tzekel-Kan enter the temple. The two gods were a couple of steps behind them, followed by their beast.

"My lords, might I suggest we throw a grand party in your honor tonight?" asked Tannabok graciously.

Tzekel-Kan rolled his eyes and growled, "Might I suggest a much more appropriate ceremony at dawn?"

Tannabok glanced aside at the priest but said nothing for a handful of moments. "Which one would you prefer, my lords?"

Tulio and Miguel looked at each other and said at the same time, "Both."

Meanwhile, Chel shifted in the shadows waiting for the chief and priest to leave before making her presence known. She tossed the golden head of a statue that she had stolen earlier from hand to hand.

"My lords," said Tannabok, bowing graciously.

"My lords," said Tzekel-Kan, who also bowed graciously before the two men exited the room. Miguel and Tulio both walked to the back of the room, where Chel quietly stood in the shadows.

"Way to go, my fellow god," said Tulio in a somber tone. He was able to keep a straight face for ten seconds before bursting out in laughter. Miguel also burst out in laughter. Judging from how Tannabok or Tzekel-Kan didn't enter the room to see what was humorous to the two men, the chief and priest had left the area.

"What saps!" claimed Miguel, turning to inspect the two sets of clothing that were in the room.

"We're going to rule this place!" claimed Tulio in a gleeful voice while dancing around.

"All we have to do is act godly," said Miguel putting on the headdress to test it out.

"We need to be careful," said Tulio with caution in his voice. "We wouldn't want to let the locals know that we're not gods."

Chel grinned at this. Apparently, the two newcomers weren't gods after all. She rubbed her chin thoughtfully for a handful of seconds, mulling over her options. She could run out of the temple to tell everyone that the two weren't gods after all... or keep the secret to herself and watch from the shadows. The third option was to share with the new 'gods' and get rich.

Of course, there was the last option. Chel giggled silently at the thought of revealing her true nature to the two false gods that she was, in fact, a true god. A god that Tzekel-Kan had summoned five years ago in hopes of bringing about a new age of bloodshed for the people of the hidden golden city. But Chel was no god of war. Chel had changed her appearance and wiped the memory from Tzekel-Kan that he had summoned a god and took the knowledge from him to prevent the priest from summoning another god to the city.

Chel had lived in the city for five years just to see just how the mortals lived their lives and liked what she saw. These mortals knew how to have a good time as well.

Chel stepped out of the shadows to reveal herself. The newcomers didn't immediately notice that Chel was there in the room.
