There was a small family owned market nearby with no boards over the windows or door so the duo decided to check it out and maybe find something to eat. The door had been locked, but the bloodied windows were broken and easy to climb into even with all the shattered glass. The store was pretty small, one long narrow room with a counter and door near the back. There were several bins of rotting fruit along with shelves stocked with all manner of boxes and cans lining the walls. What caught Eric's attention first however, was the wine rack behind the counter that still had several dozen bottles to offer the thirsty survivors. "Hey Smith, you see that wine rack behind the counter?" Smith gave him a puzzled look, but replied that he did. Eric grabbed a plastic bag from a nearby dispenser and handed it to him. "Grab us a few bottles along with whatever good food you can find, I'll see what they have behind that door." Smith nodded and hurried over to begin his job while Eric checked the back door. To his surprise it was unlocked and opened quite easily with a quick turn of the knob.

What stood before Eric on the other side was another doorway... lacking a door and some stairs off to his right. Eric closed the first door behind him and walked past the steps out into the alleyway behind the store where a fat zombie in an apron was digging in a garbage can. Fortunately, it was alone and only a weak level one. Eric grinned wickedly and didn't even bother to sneak up on it. With one quick motion he planted his shank into the back of the man's brain stem and began twisting. A few popping sounds later and the walking corpse was on the ground twitching. Eric finished it with a few powerful stomps to the head and it quit moving. Blood flowed from behind its eyes and Eric pulled his dripping shank out of the dead humans neck. A quick wipe off on his shirt and it was clean and once again ready for action. Eric looked up and down the alley and upon seeing only a few trash cans and fire escapes returned to the inside of the store. "Everything okay?" Smith called through the door. Eric opened it and saw Smith had already gotten the bottles of wine and was now picking cans off a nearby shelf. "Yeah, I ran into a zombie outside, but I took care of him. I'll check the upstairs and meet you down here in ten or fifteen minutes." Eric said as he closed the door back without even waiting for Smith's reply, which was muffled by the sound of the door shutting.

Eric walked up the steps slowly and quietly to keep the element of surprise should there be a horde of these things up here. The next floor had only two doors and two windows along with the ever ascending staircase. Eric thought it would be best to just explore this floor and then head back down, he was on a time limit after all. Eric opened the first door to his left and was immediately hit by the sight and smell of a days old corpse laying on the bed in a pool of her own blood. She had a pillow covering her head and a few flies were buzzing over her carved open stomach. Eric about vomited, but quickly regained his composure after he hastily threw a nearby sheet over her. "Jesus... poor girl..." Eric said as he moved over to a nearby closet and pulled aside the sliding door. All that was inside were a few shirts, coats, and a shoebox filled with various documents on taxes and the like. The drawers near the bed didn't have much either... only a bible and an unopened box of tissues. Eric left the room and was just about to check the second when he heard something move on the floor above him...
