Eric almost went to investigate the noise, but common sense reminded him that he was both ill equipped and on a strict time limit. All the same he made sure to close and lock the door to the second room behind him as he searched. This room was quite different from the first, arguably for the worse. It was cleaner, smelled nicer, and had a beautiful coat of paint on the walls. It was also clearly a baby's room with a crib sitting next to the wall and various toys laying about. There was even an empty bottle laying next to the crib. Eric paused for a moment, expecting to hear the cries of a baby... only to be surround by a complete silence as he began looking around. There was a working flashlight and a first aid kit inside a box along with some more baby toys, which almost went unnoticed in the eerie quietness. Eric had never had children, hell, he hadn't even had a girlfriend, but he could feel the sadness surrounding this room. For the first time in his life he felt sorry for taking something from someone else. He left the room with what he found and continued back down the stairs to greet Smith, eager to get away from this depressing place.
Eric opened the door to the main part of the store and was happy to find Smith waiting for him next to the window with a full bag of supplies. "You have any trouble?" Eric asked as he handed Smith the first aid kit to put in the already overstuffed bag. "Eh, just one of the slow ones, urg, came in through the window, so I beat him to death with my, er, brass knuckles..." Smith said as he carefully stuffed the first aid kit into his bag. Eric then noticed the corpse of a police officer laying on the ground over by one of the selves. "You check him?" Eric asked as he walked over to the corpse. "Yeah, all he had was a pair of handcuffs..." Eric turned him over with his foot to see just how much damage had been done. The poor bastard had one eye dangling from its socket and several broken or chipped teeth. "Alright, good job then. Let's get out of here before more show up." Eric said as walked towards the back door. "Hey, where you going? The exit's this way!" Smith called as he pointed to the broken window. "Yeah, but I think I've found a safer route!" Eric called back. Smith followed him out into the back alleyway from before which was still free of living zombies. "See?" Eric said almost cheerfully. "If we move through these back allies we'll avoid most of the large groups." Smith wasn't smiling when he found out about Eric's idea of a safe route however, and pointed out a glaring flaw Eric had overlooked. "True, but if we go this way we'll walk right past several stores and likely miss out on collecting a huge amount of useful supplies." Eric frowned when he realized his mistake. "Damn... you're right..."
