A bead of sweat rolled gently down Shannon Hawking's cheek as she looked out the third story window of Bitterwood's number one radio station. It sat on the edge of the city surrounded by the lush green trees of a nearby forest. Only it was impossible to see that right now as a savage wind ripped through the trees and ice cold water pelted the earth. The storm growing outside had gotten worse and it was now raining so hard that Shannon was unable to see more then a few yards away outside. The only thing she didn't have trouble making out was the empty parking lot right below her. "Damn, it'd be just my luck if a fucking tornado started blowing." She said as she turned away from the window and sat back down at the desk of the stations long dead DJ. She pulled a small cigar out of her left shirt pocket and lit it up as she went back to cleaning her handgun and taking inventory of her supplies. This must've been the third cleaning today, but it wasn't like she had anything better to do. She blew a puff of smoke into the air and sat her gun aside as she counted up the remaining bullets she had left for it. "27... 28... 29..." She stopped when she got to 34, the exact same number she had gotten the past five times she had counted.
The number of food items she had remaining, however, had been on a steady decrease since she got here four days ago and now seems to have finally run out. All that was left was half a bottle of mineral water she had found on the way here. "Ah well, at least I got plenty of tunes." Shannon said as she began playing another song. "I guess that's one good thing about hiding out in a radio station, not that I had much choice." In a few minutes she put the cigar out and walked over to her sleeping bag that was sitting off to the side of the locked and barricaded door. Shannon checked her watch as she sat down. "2:15 a.m. Guess I'll try to get some sleep." It took her a little while to get comfortable, but the sound of the downpour outside soon lolled her off to sleep. She had a good rest that night, which was fortunate considering the sleepless nights she would undoubtedly face in the near future... if she lived that long.
A ray of warm sunshine shone through the window and eventually found its way to Shannon's face. She squirmed a bit and opened her eyes with a yawn. "Mm, morning already?" She rubbed her eyes a bit and unzipped her sleeping bag. The time on her watch read 10:38 a.m. "Wow, I really slept in..." She said as she walked over to the window. The rain had ended sometime in the early morning and aside from a few puddles the world had entered a bright new day. Ironically, Shannon could see a large rainbow off in the distance just above a ruined gas station. She laughed a bit as she thought of the all the people who couldn't see it because they were likely fighting for their lives in the ravaged city. "All we need now is a unicorn spraying confetti from its ass and we'll have a perfect mix of mood dissonance." She sneered as she sat down at the desk, possibly for the last time. She took a drink out of her bottle of water and sat it back down as she tried to think. "What... am I going to do...?"
