"What Now?" Indeed

Randomly taking out whichever figurine came into his hand, Ryan wound up protruding a brunette wearing a pink dress and glasses. Checking the box for her identity, he quickly matched up her name with her appearance. "Berry? Huh, what a weird name." he thought to himself. Placing the figurine on his bed, he put the black box on his lap. "Here goes nothing." he thought. "Ok... Um... Berry... a foot?" he said sheepishly, picking out any old height he thought of.

What happened next nearly caused the young man's eyes to pop right out of his head. Right before his eyes, the figurine steadily grew until she was roughly twice the height she was before. As if that wasn't a huge enough shock to his system, the doll suddenly came alive. Standing up and turning towards him, Berry shot him a very wide smile and said "Hi! My name's Berry. Who're you?"

All Jordan could do was stare dumbly at what just happened. "What's wrong?" Berry asked after an awkward silence, clearly having no idea that this was not something that happened every day. Finally, Jordan spoke. "Who am I? Heh... I'm absolutely nuts, that's what I am."

"Huh? That's the strangest name for someone I've ever heard." Berry replied, completely missing the sarcasm. Thrown into further disbelief about the past few minutes, Jordan could think of nothing else to say except more wisecracks. "Let's see here. I don't drink, so I'm not drunk. I don't smoke or do drugs, so I'm not high. And I totally bombed a test earlier today, so I'm not dreaming. I guess that just leaves... yep, insanity. I'm definitely insane. Whoppee!" he cried sarcastically, waving his arms in the air.

Still fairly confused by his display, Berry spoke "Um, you're not crazy. I mean, I guess this is a surprise to you, but I've always been like this, so I guess I just didn't know what you were expecting. Sorry!" "So, in other words, you find it normal to move between lying lifeless and then suddenly coming to life when some random, arbitrary thing happens?" Ryan asked. "Yep! I guess so!" Berry chirped.

Well, it was official. This was really happening. Ryan still didn't have a good idea of what exactly was going on right now, but he figured he should just go along with it and be polite. "Hi. I'm Ryan. Ryan Jordan." he replied, holding out his hand. Berry took one of his fingers and shook. "Pleased to meet you!" she responded. After withdrawing his hand, Ryan could only wonder: "What now?"
