Azula smiled as she considered what type of mental game to play with her pet. There was something that she was dying to try with him but she wasn’t sure he would go for: a Mental Agni-Kai. This type of mental duel was something that only the most experienced firebenders challenged each other with because the stakes were very high. Not only would the participants of this duel be mentally tired out by the end of it, but they basically put their greatest secrets at risk by competing.
The Mental Agni-Kai basically allowed the competitors to see into each other’s souls. That was part of the reason Azula wanted to try this with Naruto. The Ninja fascinated her and she cared about him a great deal, but at the same time she didn’t understand him at all. What type of person would save her life after she had cruelly tortured him? Why would he stay with a cruel owner like her when he clearly had the power within him to escape? How did he really feel about her? This game was a chance for her to get to know him personally and understand what makes him tick. Azula looked at Naruto wondering if he would be willing to compete. She supposed that if she really wanted too, she could order her pet to engage in this duel. If she could get him to sniff her feet or jump through fire on command, it would be easy for her to force him to play. The problem with that she was beginning to care too much about him to violate his personal thoughts and secrets without his consent. She would tell him the facts first and only go through with it if Naruto was willing to try it.
“Whiskers, come here” Azula said signaling her pet to take a seat next to her. Without any hesitation, Naruto sat next to Azula and snuggled against his owner’s shoulder like an affectionate puppy dog. Azula smiled thinking about how the ninja made a cute pet. She hugged him tightly before continuing. “There is one mind game in particular that I would like to play with you.”
“Great set up the board,” Naruto said.
Azula laughed.
“No it’s not like that silly! Let me tell you about it first and then you decide whether you want to play or not.”
Naruto nodded.
“Okay!”
“I want to challenge you to a mental Agni Kai,”
“A mental what?” Naruto asked.
“Agni Kai. But we could call it a mental duel if that’s easier for you to remember.” Azula said. “It’s basically a battle between two opponents’ minds. The goal of the game is to penetrate your opponents’ mental defenses.”
Naruto was intrigued.
“How does that work?” he asked.
“Well using a special technique, firebenders can gain access into another person’s mind,” Azula said. “It only works if the person is willing to let them do it though.”
“Uh…isn’t there a small problem with that?” Naruto interrupted. “I’m not a firebender.”
“Yes I know that,” Azula chuckled. “Do you think I’m stupid?”
Naruto decided it was best not to bring up how she mistook him for an airbender when they first met. Instead he allowed Azula to continue.
“I can use the technique to give you access to my mind as well” She told him.
“Ah,” Naruto said.
Azula went on. “When our minds are linked, you’ll be able to see any of my thoughts, memories, or secrets that you want.”
“Really…Cool!!!!” Naruto said excited. He liked the idea of seeing Azula’s intimate thoughts.
Azula smiled. She loved the way Naruto could easily become really energetic.
“Easy Whiskers! That’s only if I allow you too.”
“Huh?”
“Well I did say this was a game right?” Azula reminded him. “I’m obviously going to try to prevent you from doing that. You’ll probably want to do the same as well.”
“Wait…You’d be able to see into my mind too?!!!!!!” Naruto asked.
“Oh course! That’s the whole point!! Why is there something embarrassing you don’t want me to see?” Azula asked.
Naruto’s eyes shifted back and forth. He did have his share of embarrassing moments. Among them was his first kiss with Sasuke. Rather than answer Azula, Naruto decided to distract her by asking another question. “How do I prevent you from seeing into my mind?”
Azula caught onto what Naruto was doing but she answered his question anyway.
“Well while our minds are linked like that. I can basically show you anything I want and Vice versa. If I wanted to, I could make you think you were boiling in oil and you can do that to me as well.”
“Oh so it’s like genjitsu” Naruto said.
“Ah that mental illusion jitsu you told me about,” She said. “Yes…I guess you can say that. Basically we’ll try to use mental images to force each other to submit and drop our guard.”
“I see” Naruto said considering. The game sounded challenging.
“Of course if you do decide to drop your mental guard. I’ll be able to see whatever secret or personal thought of yours that I want to. It will work the same way for me.”
“So if I dropped my guard, you would be able to see all my thoughts?” Naruto asked.
“Well only one thought or secret at a time.” Azula said. “You’d be able to see my thoughts and secrets as well but only if you are able to beat me.”
The fire princess smiled giving Naruto a teasing look like that was never going to happen.
Naruto scratched his head. He liked a challenge and he wanted to please his owner, but at the same time there were some personal thoughts that he had that he didn’t want Azula to see. Also knowing that Azula had a sadistic streak to her, Naruto wasn’t crazy about letting Azula show him whatever mental images she wanted to.
Azula saw Naruto thinking it over and gently squeezed his shoulder.
“It’s fine if you don’t want to do this,” She told him. “I’m not going to force you. If there are some secrets you don’t feel comfortable sharing with me, we could always play something else.”
Naruto smiled. Azula had softened a lot since she originally captured him. What does he decide to do?
