Naruto slowly nodded towards Azula
“You know I can’t refuse a challenge!” he said.
“Are you sure? Don’t think you have to do it to please me.” Azula told him.
“I’m not. I wanna find out what your greatest secret is,” Naruto said giving a sneaky grin like he was about to pull off Kakashi’s mask.
Azula laughed. Her pet was really good at making her seem at ease.
“Well that’s only if you can beat me! And trust me that’s not gonna happen!!”
She playfully ruffled the ninja’s hair.
“I bet it’s that you like playing with dolls as a little girl.” Naruto teased her.
“Ick. Only setting them on fire,” Azula said trying her best to scowl. She couldn’t hold it for long and quickly broke out into a smile. Not wanting Naruto to get the last word in, she quickly added “And just for that…let’s make this game have the same stakes as last time. That way I can torture you in addition to learning your secret.”
“Great cause there’s another request I’ve been thinking of asking you to fulfill for me.” Naruto told her.
“Another request?” Azula asked curious.
“Yup! You’ll find out when I win!!!” Naruto said.
Azula giggled and shook her head.
“Dream on!…Alright let’s get started. I still have to teach you how to play the game.”
In must cases Azula would take advantage of her opponent’s inexperience but Naruto was a special case. She wanted to play fair with him. She would show him how to guard his mind and knowing Naruto’s ability to pick up games really fast…they would be evenly matched in this duel. She looked at her pet. “Are you ready Whiskers?”
Naruto nodded.
Azula got up and lit a fire.
Naruto got a little concerned. “Azula you’re still pretty weak…are you sure you should be firebending?”
Azula nodded. “It’s fine. I’m only using a little bit of power.”
She sat down on one side of the fire and motioned for Naruto to sit down on the other side. Naruto did as he was asked. Azula slowly begin to control the flame’s movements making the fire look like it was dancing around. Azula looked back up at Naruto.
“Ok…now I need you to stare into my eyes. Try and concentrate on reflection of the flame.”
Naruto nodded and did what the fire princess told him to. Azula’s eyes were one of her most exotic features. They were a bright amber color and despite the coldness they usually projected, they had a beautiful depth to them that anyone who could withstand her fierce stare would get lost in. As Naruto watched the reflection of the fire dance across her eyes, he felt like his soul was being drawn into hers.
Azula smiled. She was staring into Naruto’s eyes as well and felt the same pull on her soul.
“I think it’s working.” She announced. “Just make sure you don’t break my gaze.”
“Ok,” Naruto mumbled. He wasn’t sure he could look away even if he tried to.
“Good,” Azula said. “Now why don’t you try projecting an image into my head. Concentrate on something that you want me to see.”
Naruto thought for a second and focused on the first image that popped into his head.
Azula was instantly able to see it and smiled. “Don’t you think about anything besides Ramen?” She laughed.
Naruto chuckled. “Couldn’t help it. I’m pretty hungry. But this technique is pretty cool. I didn’t think it would work.”
“Of course it works.” Azula said clicking her tongue. “Ok let me try and project an image into your head.”
Naruto gave a nod. “Go ahead.”
Azula focused an image in her mind.
“What image are you seeing?” She asked.
“A dragon?” Naruto said unsure if that was what he was supposed to see.
“Right!” Azula said. “It seems to be working. Remember that when you are projecting images into my head. You are actually protecting your mind from me seeing what’s inside it.”
“Got it!” Naruto said.
“I’m going to be doing the same thing to you as well.” Azula explained. “If at any time you can’t take any more of my mental imagery…just relax your concentration and think of the color white and I’ll know to stop. That will be the equivalent of giving up. Ok?”
“Ok!” Naruto said.
“That’s basically it. Are you ready to start?” Azula asked.
“Ready!” Naruto said.
With that Azula started the duel and everything went black.
