The Butcher's Daughter

"Her name's Rachel. She's the butcher's only child."

"Was she married?"

"Yes."

"To who?"

"Mr. Matthews."

"What does Mr. Matthews do?"

"He helps the butcher."

"Did they have children?"

"One, sir."

"A boy?"

"Yes, sir."

"What's his name?"

"Daniel."

"I see." He felt frustrated. She gave the minimal answer to his questions and it was irritating.
