Chapter #4

Officer Cameron's Fate

    by: CursedFreedom Author IconMail Icon
Laura longed for sleep again, but, lying with her back against the thin mattress, she just couldn't. Something about what the cop had said stirred her. She found herself sitting up, delving into her own thoughts when a blast from outside shook her. A startling boom erupted a flame so close, she could feel the heat.
She rushed to the window, looking wild-eyed at the inferno across the street. An entire section of the nearby complex had collapsed, with fire pouring out. Squinting, she thought she could see someone squirming inside the building, covered in flames, trying to escape. Amazingly, the first thought that crossed her mind was That cop has his work cut out for him.
Laura knew she couldn't stay here. She needed to find out more from the policeman. Maybe his "city evacuation" plan has something to do with this. Although she didn't bring much luggage with her when she moved in, Laura felt she only needed one item, one necessity to bring along before she stepped outside to investigate. An inherited dagger passed down from her mother. A beautiful decorative dagger with a golden handle and sheath, and a 6" inch sharpened steel blade. Her mother has been deceased for three years due to cancer. Laura didn't want to leave behind her mother's only inheritance to her. She hooked the weapon on the belt of her jeans for now.
After grabbing her billfold, she rushed out the door, not bothering to lock it. She hurried down the hallway to the elevator room, then abruptly stopped short. There she saw Officer Cameron, lying on the floor, the police uniform bloodied and torn. His neck had been ripped wide open, his eyes staring at the ceiling. his 9mm pistol clutched in his fingers.
Laura stood frozen, her eyes wide from shock at the sight of a dead man whom she met alive not five minutes ago.
A faint hiss broke her stare, but she did not move. the hiss grew louder and she could hear steps. Whatever it was, it was behind her.
Does she...

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*
