Chapter #5

It Just Takes a Second

    by: Zombie Author IconMail Icon
Laura stood in a cold sweat, her heart was in her head as she felt the 'thump thump, thump thump' beat her chest as the disturbing noises behind her seemed to have no intentions of stopping.

Laura dared not make a sudden move, as if whatever was behind her would not notice or come for her; a bit too many movies involving this technique Laura had seen. Laura's eyes slid down to rest uneasy on the late Officer Cameron's handgun.
Laura gathered her focus, she planned out the movements to make and what she was going to do based on where the sound seemed to be coming from as it was slowly getting closer, of course all this has happened in a matter of a second.

Laura took a breath and quickly tensed every voluntary muscle in her body as she fell forward intentionally and swiped her palm across the handle of the pistol, also brushing up against the still warm hand of Officer Cameron's corpse which gave her a curdling feeling in her stomach. Laura blindly swung around, her finger tense on the trigger of the gun as she pointed it unskillfully at where she assumed to be the source of the hissing noise, she saw nothing but a blur in whirl she had preformed as everything around her seemed silenced by a loud cackle from the handgun.

Laura had her eyes closed during this, the hissing had stopped and everything was still for the time being. Laura opened her eyes slowly, squinting in fear that something would be standing right in her face, once she was confident nothing was right in front of her she opened her eyes completely, looking down right at her feet she gasped and brought her free hand to her mouth to silence her surprised emittance.

Laura was looking at the corpse of something red, it did not look human to her at all. The corpse was right at her feet, the thing had lunged at her right when she spun around and shot. Laura backed up, she noticed that her front clothing was covered in a spray of red, the creature laying before her looked as if a human had been turned inside out, a dark hole in the back of a head that resembled human gray matter was seeping dark and decayed blood.
Laura coughed, vomit rising in her throat as the smell hit her, a disgruntled look crossing her face as she held tight on the gun with one hand and covered her mouth still with the other.

You have the following choices:

1. Laura heads for the lobby floor of her apartment.

*Noteb*
2. Laura hears more noises.

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
