Zuko stood silently on the foredeck of his ship,brooding really he'd been so close to having the avatar.So close that he could envision the grand halls of the palace, his home, this wasn't the first time that he had tasted victory only to have it turn into the bitter tastes of shame, humiliation, and defeat. His guards, sparring partners,and servants watched him warily they knew better than to approach him when he was in one of these moods, except for one, a young child perhaps a year younger than thier prince. This young girl walked very boldly up to the prince,"My prince,"she said quietly and respectfully, when he looked to her acknowledging that she had his attention,"the cook sent me up to tell you that your dinner is served."
When he didn't speak, she said quietly "It would be improper for your most honored uncle to eat alone."
His vioce had a bearly controlled edge in it as he replied,"Then you go eat with him if you are so concerned about him eating alone."
The servant bowed out,even she knew when to leave, it wasn't long after that the rest of the servants left as well leaving thier prince to utter loneliness.He stood there alone untill the moon rose and the stars began to shine then she came to him again
"The stars sure are beautiful tonight,my prince." she said quietly.
He nodded,His anger from earlier in the day had cooled,something about this child seemed to remind him of his mother. Perhaps that was the reason he had taken her as one of his maids instead of kicking her off at the next port when he found out that she had stowed away.
"I am sorry about what happened to today." she replied to his nod
"Do you know how lucky you are?" he asked suddenly
"What do mean,my prince?" she responed confused, he looked at her,his eyes burning with an intensity that could never be matched, as he replied,"Because you're truly free."
