The plane was utterly flat and smooth. Unnatural even. It stretched away for about a kilometre and a half in any direction until it met towering sheer cream coloured cliffs which seemed to tower a kilometre straight up. What was strange was the regularity of everything. It was all ninety degree angles. Creepy.
And the sky' It looked wrong. A sort of flat uniform off white. But then she'd never been to another planet before. The light seemed to come from off centre somewhere. The sun wasn't visable.
Suddenly there was a noise in the distance. THOOM. And another, louder. Coming closer. They all felt the vibration in the ground. And suddenly' There! Jacki's youngest, Cassie screamed. A rectangular portal over two kilometers high had opened in the nearest and highest cliff face. And in it stood framed an alien....
