Cabbages Newly arrived from the warmth of Africa, we went for a walk in the crisp, cold winter of Kent, breath steaming in the sharp air. Crossing a ploughed field with only the stumps of cabbages showing above ground, the crunch of our footsteps on the frozen soil awoke us to a new continent, a homeland as old as the hills and as fresh as now.
