Sam Jones worked for the Cosmos Institute in Berkeley, California as a paranormal researcher in one of the premier paranormal research outfits in the world. They called themselves the real x files and were staffed with former intel agents, and retired scientists from bay area universities and CALTECH and lots of graduate student interns. Their unofficial motto was

“The truth is out there, really out there.”

Sam was part of a team of search for alien intelligence specialists having become well known as a prominent UFO researcher. One day, his assistant Sandra Lee, their internal AI specialist came up to him and told him that according to their AI research bots which they had deployed monitoring the world wide every day and the world’s astronomical observations for signs of possible alien signals had come up a possible hit coming from the vicinity of the planet Sirius.

Sam grilled her,

“So Sandra what does Cosmos (their new AI program nickname) think about this possible alien intelligence signal?”

“Well it is strange. Cosmos has deciphered a message from the Sirius Star system and has made a rough translation.

“What does it say?”

“I will play it. It is broadcasting in multiple languages, and just popped up a few minutes ago and appears to be a real transmission, form ten years ago, but it also appears to be a possible strange alien sense of humor maybe a prank?

“People of earth. You are nothing but bugs and we are the Borg, the master race of the universe,. We are coming for you. Be prepared to be absorbed. Resistance is futile. Bwa bwa bwa. Due date one year from today in your year 2025 be afraid, be very afraid.”

“Hmm. Well I will let you into a little known secret. The lead writer of Star Trek was known to us as he was one of the original secret founders of the institute. He founded the institute, he said, to provide critical intel about the future coming threats from the borg. He claimed he was from the future 2500, and the the Borg were real, and would be possibly contacting Earth in 2025 and arrive in 2026 ending human freedom and humanity.

The Borg are an aggressive species who travel the universe absorbing other races and civilizations once they reach the level of civilization where their TV and radio broadcasts are sent out into the galaxy. He helped popularized the dark forest theory that we should be glad other civilizations have not contacted us because most of them will prove to be hostile. The Borg are just one of many out there. The Star Treck universe is based on the future of the human race.

In his timeline, the Borg do not conquer earth until 2600, but something changed and the Borg could arrive as early as 2025. Everyone thought he was a bit mad, no one took him that seriously, although he did show us future tech 25 years ago including phones, lap tops and the prototype of what would become Cosmos.”

“What are we going to do?’

“Well, We will have to run it by our senior leadership. Come with me and do the briefing.”

They went to meet the boss lady, Maria Lee who was a strange enigmatic woman who used to be a high up in the secret intel world and joined the Cosmos Institute after losing an internal power struggle that she never talked about. She knew everyone that mattered and had a strange appearance, a pan-ethnic look that could be almost any ethnic group and a vague accent that was vaguely not human. There were rumors that she could be an alien and there were other aliens out there in the halls of power. But it was all very hush hush plausible deniability and many in the UFO community were weary of such claims. She never directly confirmed or denied such stories as was typical of most senior intel operatives in Sam’s experience.

“Sam, Sandra welcome. Cosmos alerted me to the message and I just off the phone with the president. The concensus is that Gene our founder was telling the truth. There are several different time lines involved and in this time line the earth may become a victim of the Borg, in other time lines the world continues.

But the future is not written in stone and there is one thing we can do. According to Gene the Borg in his time were defeated by computer malware and logic bombs. The Borg for all of their advance technologies were just not capable of handling the deception of human beings, as humans are the most deception of all advanced civilizations. I should know as I am an alien and there are other aliens living among humans.”

“So what we will do is upload in our response to the Borg malware. When they access our response the malware destroying the Borg vessel. The Borg vessels are linked but once the one targeting the earth is eliminated, the Borg may decided that humans are not worthy of further attention. That was what happened in his time line before he went back in time to our time line.”

Sam and Sandra worked with cosmos to craft a message that embedded malware and the Borg were eliminated in a secret operation. Humanity was saved.
