Poem for my Aunt as she passes
My Loving Aunt
As you lie in the hospital in a bed
Surrounded by machines that are beeping with no tune.
Staff that is in and out with their necessary quick checks;
I know you are close to your last breath on earth
I do not want your to hurt nor do I want you to hurry away
I am thousands of miles away
And I am in the room with you
I am praying that at this time you can smell the black berries ripening on the vine in the hot summer sun
I am praying that you can see the redness of apples on the trees and remember the freshness of the flavor of one just picked
It is almost like God made that one for you!
I pray that you can smell clover in the grass and hay in the fields
Honeysuckle and lilac all around you.
I pray that you can hear the first one hundred drops of a much awaited summer shower
I pray you can hear the peace of the snow falling onto the branches of the pine trees.
I pray you can hear the purr of a kitten as it curls up close to your heart
I pray that you can hear your childs foot steps when they run to greet you and you can
See the joy in thier eyes that is only for you.
I pray you are walk in the beauty of a perfect sunset and feel and see the wonder and purpose of the glory of the sun rise.
I pray that as you leave you drift into the arms of the God you have shown me is.
I pray you are surrounded by all that is pure and live in the presence of joy.
I know there are so many who will be there to greet you because they love you too.
I love you.
