A mothers love is the strongest weapon, but is it enough against a god?

My knees ache, my throat sore from pleading to the God to the being before me. His red eyes glared down upon me as if I was nothing but a speck of dirt.
"Please, take mercy upon my son!" I begged the God
He scoffed, "Your son broke my one rule, not to practice magic, he deserves to die."
Elijah coughed blood onto the dirt, "Mom, it's no use,"
"Silence, boy" The God demanded,
With a wave of his hand, the God caused my son to spasm. A wail escaped my lips as I watched in terror as the child I raised suffered. He may have broken the laws set upon us by the God, but that did not mean such a punishment must be endured.
"STOP!" I demanded
The God responded with a smile, punishing my boy even harder.
In a moment of either bravery or stupidity, I called out,"Take me in his place!"
The God stopped and tilted his head, "You would do such a thing for your son?"
"Without even a moment of hesitation."
He smiled,"He shall duel then, I see no point in just killing you so quickly,"
"As you wish, just give me a moment to say farewell to my son."
The God signalled his hand to the boy as I walked to his bloodied side,
"You can't do this mom!" He exclaimed,
I grinned, pushing his hair back as I had done years prior,"When will you learn I'd do anything for you?"
"But no man can kill a God!"
"Let's be thankful that I am not a man," I kissed his forehead and stood to face the God. Gently tears fell from my eyes, knowing that this would be the end of me, but at least my son may live his life.
"This will be fun," The God summoned a sword into each of our hands,"To the death!" He exclaimed
"To the death," I muttered back
We charged, my breath short, ready for whatever the almighty may throw at me, But, he stopped. He grasped at his chest and fell to the ground.
I looked down upon him as the final breath escaped his lungs. He whispered,"Heart attack," before dying
"Oh, well that was easy." I shrugged my shoulders
"Mom!" My son exclaimed, his wounds healed,"Since the God is dead I'm all better!"
I wrapped my arm around him,"Sometimes all you need is luck."
Together, we walked into the sunset, thanking the fortune that had fallen upon us.
