The Week After Christmas

In the week after Christmas
shredded wrapping is all through the house
but not a crumb-crunching elf
or a Godiva-eating mouse
(thank God)

During the winter season
the weather can be dreary
waiting for the springtime
tired of the cold, feeling weary
(unless you live in a warm climate)

New Year's is a fresh start
thinking of hopeful things
to improve life as it is
and the joy that could bring
(maybe)

At least now there can hopefully be rest
and a little peaceful cheer
the "present" is indeed a gift
