One act play for Eve
Title: First Light

Characters:

Eve — Aware and curious, experiencing the world for the first time, filled with wonder and a desire to understand.
Voice of God — Compassionate, guiding, and nurturing, gently introducing Eve to her purpose.
Adam — Kind and welcoming, he’s seen only briefly but shares in Eve’s sense of wonder and joy.
Setting: The Garden of Eden, a lush paradise blooming with life. Eve stands amidst flowers, trees, and soft sunlight filtering through leaves. The world is bright and serene, with the faint sounds of animals and birds in the background.

Scene:

(Eve awakens slowly, standing in a glade surrounded by vibrant plants and soft earth beneath her feet. She breathes deeply, sensing the beauty around her with childlike awe. She touches her face, her hands, and looks around with wide eyes.)

Eve: (whispering to herself) Where...am I? (Pauses, looking at her hands.) And who...am I? (Touches her heart.) I feel...alive. So alive. I am Eve.

(She looks around, entranced by the garden, reaching out to touch the petals of a flower. Her gaze follows a butterfly as it flutters by.)

Voice of God: Eve.

Eve: (startled but captivated by the sound) Who, who are You?

Voice of God: I am the One who formed you, Eve. I am your Creator, the One who brought you to life.

Eve: (smiling with awe) I feel it. The life, it fills me. And this place, it’s so beautiful! Did You, did You make this?

Voice of God: Yes, Eve. I made this garden for you, a place of peace and beauty, a place to explore, to care for, and to grow in. Everything here has a purpose, and you, Eve, are the heart of it all.

Eve: (looking around, touched and curious) But why? Why did You bring me here? I feel, something inside, a wonder, but also, a question.

Voice of God: You were made to seek, to know, to discover. This longing will guide you toward Me and toward the truth of who you are. You are unique, Eve, crafted in My image, filled with a light all your own.

Eve: (pauses, absorbing the words, then looks down at her reflection in a clear pool of water nearby) In Your image. I am, like You? And yet, I feel different from everything around me. The creatures, they move, they breathe. But I feel something in me that goes beyond.

Voice of God: (smiling warmly) That feeling is good, Eve. You are made to walk with Me, to know Me deeply, and to bring love to this garden. There is someone here who will share this journey with you, someone I made to be your companion.

Eve: (her face lights up with excitement) A companion? Like me?

Voice of God: Yes, Eve. Adam is his name. He, too, is filled with life and purpose, and he has been waiting for you. Together, you will care for this garden, delight in its beauty, and grow as one.

Eve: (smiling, eager) I want to meet him! Where is he?

Voice of God: He is nearby, just beyond this grove. Go to him, Eve. Walk with him, learn with him, and be as one. You are both part of My creation, reflections of My love.

Eve: (taking a deep breath, looking around, then smiling softly) Thank You… for this life, for this place, for all of it. I feel complete, as if I belong.

Voice of God: (smiling) You are My gift, Eve. Go now, embrace your purpose, and live fully in this world. I am with you, always.

(Eve begins to walk, moving through the grove, her heart filled with a deep, joyful anticipation. She approaches a clearing where Adam stands, gazing at the trees. He turns, seeing her, his eyes filled with awe and gratitude.)

Adam: (softly, as if in a dream) Eve… You’re here.

Eve: (smiling brightly, feeling a deep connection) Yes. And, you are Adam?

Adam: Yes. I’ve been waiting for you. I didn’t know what I was waiting for, but I felt it, like a part of me was missing. And now here you are.

Eve: (pauses, looking into his eyes with wonder) I feel the same, like I was meant to be here with you, to share in this beauty and this life.

(They take each other’s hands, both sensing the unity and completeness in one another’s presence.)

Voice of God: Go forth, Adam and Eve. Together, care for this world, cherish it, and walk in love and harmony. I am with you both, always.

(The scene fades as they walk hand in hand through the garden, marveling at its wonders, their journey just beginning, together as one.)

End of Play.
