The story of my Antagonist in my novel Conquer
I was going to make the Mayor of my town, Grand Rock my antagonist, but something else works better.

My antagonist is more the situation Lillian finds herself in. She moves to a small town in which there is a conflict building between the Town Council and the Parish Council over a piece of land that both want to possess. She becomes a member of the Parish Council and Town Council, and is challenged to decide which side she will support. She had to look inside herself and battle with her own insecurities and her religious beliefs to navigate the conflict. Not to mention the expanding conflict between the townspeople of which she has just become one.

Grand Rock, which is fictional, is predominantly Catholic. But, most people attend very rarely. The Parish priest, Father Gromely, feels that more children are not being given the chance to know their religion and have not made an informed choice about not having it in their lives, the parents have decided this for them. That is his motivation for what he does.

Mayor Flemming is all about keeping Grand Rock prosperous. Having the land for an event venue will add to the town's earning, she believes. That is her motivation for wanting this land.

Lillian is stuck in the middle of these two forces.
