Four boys are reluctant to let a girl set even one foot in their treehouse. 300 words
Facts, It Figures

The four friends gathered in their treehouse. Mike, Ned, Otis and Pete were the only ones in the club. They didn’t do much at meetings, but read comics, eat candy and play card games.

“I figured it out.” Mike told them

“What?” said the other three in chorus.

“Why them girls want to join our club.”

“To take over the whole thing for themselves,” offered Ned.

“To turn it all girly and frou-frou,” Otis opined.

Pete didn’t say anything.

“What do you think?”

“Girls are okay.”

“Are you tetched?”

“How come you’re so gung-ho for girls all of a sudden?”

Pete shrugged.

“Pete has a girlfriend,” the chant began, complete with kissing noises.

“Cut it out!”

The boys became suddenly silent.

“My cousin Gail is coming for a visit. Mom wants me to show her around and do things with her,” Pete explained.

“But does she have to come here? This is our place!” Mike protested

“Where else do I go all the time? If you guys have any better suggestions, speak up right now.”

The boys sat and thought. They each threw out a few suggestions but realized they hadn’t done any of those things since they built the treehouse.

“I could bring her myself, none of you would have to be here!” Pete decided.

“But what if she secretly turns it girly behind your back?”

“I’ll keep a good eye on her and we won’t stay long,” Pete swore.

Reluctantly, the rest agreed.

The day after Pete’s girl cousin visited the tree house, the rest of the boys came to check it out. Everything was the same, but different. You could smell bubble gum. A pirate flag covered the window. There were new comic books and decks of cards.

“Girls aren’t so bad after all.”
