Yesterday
In the dappled dawn
I wandered through a field of wildflowers
Glowing pink roses
Strawberry blossoms
Trailing arbutus and
Purple violets
A deer strolled along the thorny briers
While I meandered through
Golden buttercups and
Fresh red clover
Blue-eyed grass and
Black-eyed Susans
The sun on my face
The earth at my feet
I smelled the beauty
Caressing my spirit
Tasted the breeze
As it rippled my hair
Bees buzzed on flower buds
Birds swooped
Wings reflecting the cherry sunrise
Coltsfoot leaves
Devil’s paintbrush
Lady slipper and
Soloman’s seal
Do we ever stop to think
Why we reach for the sun
While roots keep us grounded
We bud, we blossom, our time is fleeting
Our souls becomes the elegance
Of a single flower petal
Or the faint fragrance of fading flowers
So pause for a moment
Appreciate and be grateful
For dappled dawns
And ephemeral daisies
