Summer makes me sad
My heart aches
Warm, humid air coddles me
Earth wraps her vines
Around towering
Trees that cascade a red-clay walkway.
I’m tethered to the earth just the same.
Beneath each step, a world of
Little creatures
Feverishly churning decay into fresh,
Ripe soil to lay to bed the
Winged pine cone seeds
Which descend, not fall, past me
With no acknowledgement of my
Sadness because they have work to do!
Quit crying!
But the trees are still here.
Still swaying and such like trees do.
The branches waving at me
As if to say
“You’re no intrusion, really.”
At once they send butterflies to kiss my skin
Where my tears fall.
And everything’s alright again.
The wind pats my tears dry.
All better now.
